The reason, explained William W. McBride, manager of the Co lumbia Regional Office, is that the law’s cut-off date of August 20, 1954, applies to Korean Veterans separated from service before Aug. 20, 1952. If they want GI train ing, they must begin by the 1954 deadline in order to continue after wards The deadline, however, comes before next fall;’s school term gets under way. Therefore, ex cept for the summer session, the school term starting early in 1954 will offer many veterans their last opportunity to get started under the Korean GI Bill. Veterans who left service after August 20, 1952, need not con cern themselves with the forth coming 1954 cut-toCf date, Mr. McBride said. Instead, they have two years from the date of their separation in which to begin GI training. TTnder the law, a veteran actual ly must “enroll in and begin’’ training before his deadline, if : wants to go on with it after irds. The mere filing of an ap plication beforehand, with the in tention of starting afterwards, is not enough, Mr. McBride pointed out _ Recent Births GLYMPH Mr. and Mrs. A. E. NEVILLE CHILDREN SPEND HOLIDAYS HERE • Miss Susan Neville, Director of Religious Education at the First Presbyterian Church in Gainsville, Ga., Miss Virginia Neville, a member of the faculty of the city schools in DeCatur, Ga; Tennent Neville, a freshman at Presbyter ian College and Gordon Neville, who is attending Junior College in Rome, Ga., spent the Christmas Holidays here with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. A. Neville on Calhoun street. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Neville are missionaries in Brazil. Generally, the veteran will be expected to be in the classroom or at the training bench on his dead line date. But so long as he started in time, he may be per mitted to interrupt his course be cause of the summer vacation, or for other reasons beyond his con trol, or for any circumstances that VA deems to be excusable. Mr. McBride emphasized that cut-off-date rules apply only to veterans training under the Ko rean GI Bill. They do not pertain to those enroled under the original World War II GI Bill.
