Climaxing the series of lovely parties given in honor of Miss Betty Blease Baker, whose mar riage to Sydney Carter of George town was an event of Saturday night, was the dinner given for the members of the wedding party prior to rehearsal of the wedding Friday night. Hosts and Hostesses were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Baker, Dr. and Mrs/ Ralph Baker and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Summer. The lower floor of the beauti ful Baker home on Main street was thrown en suite and open fires furnished a colorful back ground for the decorations. On the mantels were white tapers glowing in silver and crystal can delabra. Attractive arrangements of yellow and bronze chrysanthe mums were used in the parlor. In the other rooms, a green and white bridal motif was used, with arrangements of gladiolus, snap dragons, carnations, chrysanthe mums and magnolia greenery. Before the guests entered the dining room, all joined hands and Rev. R. L. Holroyd returned thanks. The bride’s table in the state dining room was covered with a white cloth and centered with an arrangement of white snapdragons, carnations and mums. White flowers and candles were used on the lazy susan table in the family dining room and on the small tables in the sun room, where forty-eight guests enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner. Among those present was Miss Anne Dar lington of Washington, D. C., cous in of Mrs. R. L. Baker, who was in Newberry for the wedding. ’ The bride and groom presented gifts to their attendants. The bride’s attendants were presented silver pin trays and the groom presented his best man and ushers billfolds. Free estimates Parents Invited To Visit Lunch Room A stimulating and informative program was presented by the faculty and staff of the Boundary St. school at the meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association last Thursday evening. Gerald C. Pay- singer presented the officials who outlined their duties and reported on their work. Mrs. Ruby Abrams outlined her responsibilities as pBnCliial a’nd discussed enrollment, daily schedule, playground activit ies, entertainment features, health program, and recent equipment purchased for the school. Mrs. Joe Mayer, lunch «room supervisor, re ported on the number of meals served and the method of serving. She urged the cooperation of the parents and invited them to visit the lunch room and sample the meals. Mrs. Furman Sterling, music supervisor, discussed the objectives of music in the schools and her cativities, including the Mrs. Eva Bullock, art supervisor use of equipment now available, and part-time librarian, outlined her program of work in both fields, and listed types of facilities. Mr. P. K. Harmon, county super visor of education, spoke briefly on the need for additional equipment, and mentioned future plans for the school. Don Rook led group singing, using recorded music for the ac companiment. Dr. Paul H. Heisey conducted the devotions. The busi ness session was led by J. W. Henderson. The attendance prize was won by Mrs. McWherter’s first grade. The Halloween Carn ival Committee was commended for the splendid success of the car nival. Mrs. Tom Pope reported for the Christmas Float Committee and outlined plans for the float. Suggestions for the finance com mittee may be submitted to R. R. Bruner, Jr., chairman. SCRUGGS VISIT SON IN VIRGINIA Mr. and Mrs. George F. Scruggs returned to their home on College street Extension on Thursday, No vember 12, after a ten-day visit with their son and daughter-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. George “Buddy” Scruggs, Jr., and daughter, Betty in Charlottesville, Va. Enroute home the Scruggs spent Wednes day night in Charlotte, N. C. in the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Crum and family.
