The Cemetery of Perpetual Upkeep for care and beauty throughout the ages. A Prince of India was com missioning the royal architect to build a tomb for his bloved Princess who had died—“Make it beautiful, as she was beautiful,” he said, “Let the design and material and workmanship be a true reflection of her loveli ness. No other was like her. Let this be a building such as no man has seen.” ' The owners, engineers, architects, and landscape gardeners of the Newberry Memorial* Gardens are striv ing to make this one of the most beautiful and unforgettable places to the memory of the departed. We use this way to show love, devotion, and respect for our loved ones. It is to our advantage to prepare for the inevitable; to do today what tomorrow may not let us do. There is a peace of mind and comfort in the knowledge that bereaved relatives will be spared the ordeal of attending to the harrowing details of purchasing burial property at a time when their hearts are torn with grief and when the stress of emotion makes clear thinking impossible. Our thoughtfulness in arranging this protection for our families now will long be gratefully remembered by those who otherwise would have to assume that obligation. St. Paul had a way of saying things with a clearness that was sometimes blunt but always unmistakable. Writing to a young preacher named Timothy, he once said—-“If any man provide not for his own, especially those of his own household, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” I resolve on this 8th day of October, 1953, that I shall endeavor to build a Garden of beauty, aided by capable engineers, architects, a landscape gardner; a place Where sweeping lawns, lovely evergreens, trees, music, love, and beauty will be symbolic of life eternal; where flowers in abundance will bloom from early spring until late fall. I will strive to make it truly God’s Garden, where the sorrowing will be consoled by its magnificent beauty and tranquility; where people, young and old, will come from miles around to enjoy the beauty and the love that is expressed here. .
