Lewis and Willie Vernon were scheduled to go to Washington with the ether seniors of Newberry High aehool when they made their trip, trat were unable to go at that time because they were both working. MR. AND MRS. L. B. DAVIS are leaving today (Thursday) for a .couple of week’s vacation in the mountains of North Carolina near ABhevllle. MRS. L. B. WE^B of Washing ton, D. C., who ha^/been on a three week’s visit here with her sister, Mrs. George L. Epps on Calhoun street will leave Friday for Cam den to visit her son and daughter- in-law, Dr. and Mrs Harold B. Webb before returning to her home in Washington. Mrs. Epps wlil accompany her sister to Cam den for the weekend. MR. AND MRS. News A Short AF Recruiting Station Operating At Greenville Base An Aviation Cadet Selection Team equipped to interview and partially process prospective ap plicants for flying training in the Air Force has. been established at Donaldson Air Force Base, Green ville, under supervision of Head quarters, 3503rd Personnel Pro cessing Squadron, Moody Air Force,Base, Valdosta, Georgia. According to team president Captain Robert E, Coatps, the tea& supplied with the most cur rent and factual flying training in formation, will visit colleges, uni versities, Air Bases and cities in Tennessee, North Carolina^ South Carolina and Georgia. Aviation Cadets are trained to become pilots or aircraft ob servers. An aircraft observer is schooled in an aircrew speciality such as bombardment, navigation, radar, or aircraft performance engineering. Upon completion of approxi mately one year of training, an Aviation Cadet (pilot or observer) receives his silver wings and a commission as . a Second. Lieu tenant in the United States Air Force Reserve. To qualify for Aviation Cadet training, an applicant must have a minimum of two years college credit; be between 19 and 26% years of age, single, in good physi cal condition, and be able to pass mental and physical tests. Pilot ap plicants must have normal 20-20 vision, while aircraft observer candidates need only have 20-50 vision correctable with glasses to the norfnal 20-20. Young men applying now for observer training can expect a c)ass assignment within six weeks after the successful comple tion of the qualifying tests. Cromer Family Holds 4th Reunion On Saturday, July 4th the de- cendants of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Cromer with a few special ly-invited guests held a family re union at the Mt. Bethel-Garmany Community Hall, which was well attended with only a couple of relatives absent. The out-of-town guests include! Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cromer of Pittsburg, Pa., Mrs. Carolyn Crom er Di Marco, Brooklyn, N. Y., Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Cromer, Spartan burg and Mr. and Mrs. Earle Cromer of Charleston, with all their families. The large dining ta^le was load ed to capacity with a variety of picnic dinner consisting of about everything that was good to eat After everyone enjoyed the bounti ful feast, they were then served with a delightful course of refresh ing ice cream. After the meal they assembled in the main auditorium for an entertainment of selected favorite songs and piano music rendered by Mrs. Nina Price. Dur ing this period very appropriate short speeches were made by J. Horace Cromer and John T. Crom er. This was followed by a pray er offered by Van Price thus clos ing a very fine and enjoyable day of recreation and pleasure. State Commis sion of ’ Forestry annual Boys Forestry Camp for one week, at Cheraw State Park, County Rang er Marvin E.
