Kendall MOLLOHON First Aid Kit Must On Farms, Ezell Declares Modern farm equipment in cludes inexpensive first-aid kits strategically located where they may save a life or prevent serious infections from injury, Paul B. Ezell, county agent, stated this week. , He says that during the busy season on the farm, first-aid kits are especially important and should be available both in the house and ^it convenient points about the farmstead as well as on farm equipment. “It is a simple matter to pro vide satisfactory homemade first- aid kits at low cost,” Mr. Ezell •continues. “The National Safety Council recommends the follow ing materials for assembling a good first-aid kit. A tight box, preferably metal, such as a cash box of fishing tackle box or even a tightly covered tin can will serve as a container. It should be thoroughly cleaned, well labeled, and packed with the following ma terials: Rolls of adhesive tape of varying widths, sterile cotton swabs and sticks, sterile white cloth for large bandages and tourniquets, a tube of sterile white vaseline for minor burns, scissors, boric acid, tincture of benzoin, an accepted antiseptic, and aromatic spirits of ammonia,” he adds. Each of these seemingly unre lated incidents in the growth of free Europe’s ability to produce for its own defense is really close ly related to the others. For each is an example of the military pro duction of America’s European al lies made possible through de fense support contributions of the U. S. Mutual Security Agency. Into the production of the French jet fighter, the “MysterS,” termed “an excellent interceptor” by U. S. Air Force test pilots, have gone a little over $5 million worth of U. S. machine tools, fi nanced by MSA. The Dutch artil lery tractor, which can tow a 105 mm gun at 40 miles an hour while carrying 11 men and a ton and a half of ammunition, is powered with truck engines produced by the Hercules Motor Corp. of Can ton, Ohio. American radio tubes are making it possible for Norway to produce 5,000 of its powerful new portable radios, which are about the size of a soda pop bottle. These examples of defense-sup port contributions by the United States to its NATO allies also il lustrate the multiplying effect of American comipodities in produc ing military equipment for de fense against Communist aggres sion. With modern je£ fighters cost ing about $300,000 apiece, the United States could, under its military aid program, send France about 17 U. S. jets for the same amount of dollars it used in pur chasing the machinery for the French plane factory. But produc tion of Mystere planes at the Mar cel Dassault factory near Bor deaux is planned at 30 a month by the end of this year. Thus the U. S. contribution will be multi plied about every two weeks, while America’s own plane pro duction is spared this extra strain. The U. S. contribution to the Dutch artillery tractors, including engines, axles and gear boxes, amounts to about $1,700 per fin ished vehicle. Phone 1116-J DaleCarnegie ^ AUTHOR OF “HOW TO STOP WORRYING AND START LIVING" ^ Sufficient Unto the Day’ gIDNEY M. MAJOR, JR., Washington, D.C., once suffered ter rific headaches. One day, one struck suddenly with a sharp searing pain directly behind his left eye, accompanied by ex treme nausea and excessive perspiration. The only remedy was to lie down immediately, take aspirin and “sweat it out.” The next day he had another, and by the end of the week he never knew when, day or night, another might strike! Thoroughly alarmed, he consulted doctors and specialists. One said, “There's nothing wrong with you—you are just imagining your head aches!” Another said, “I think you are allergic to strawberries!” Another said, “Take out your ton sils!” And finally, one specialist said, “You know you just.might be losing your mind!’ Carnegie Well, he certainly seemed to be going crazy with worry. It looked as if he would lose his job, his career, and possibly his life! One day he talked to one of the staff engineers, his boss— we’ll call him Mr. Wilson—and told him his trouble, who said, “Sid, I’m going to tell you something I’ve never told anyone—not even my wife! Two years ago my doctor told me that I had a bad case of heart trouble—that I could die any day! That nearly killed me at once. Then I thought, everyone dies some time. I’ve just been given a little preview of the date! Why not enjoy each day for the time I have left? As Jesus said, Matthew 6:34: ‘Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.’ ” Sidney took his friend’s advice, realizing how petty his prob lem was by comparison and then he faced it. When he did he felt better and thought more clearly, and consulted an eye surgeon who operated on his eye. He has had no more headaches! Now when a problem confronts him he doesn’t give up, but his problem; carries on and looks for a solution. plete artillery tractbrs of . this kind to Europe would cost about $7,000 each, in addition to ship ping charges. It would cost from $1 million to $3 million to provide Norway with 5,000 radios of the type she is now producing with the help of $15,000 worth of American-sup plied radio tubes. Without su|j^ aid under the Mutual Security Program ,the NATO countries would still make s u b s t a n tial' contributions to Europe’s defenses. But thro the use of a relatively amount of dollars, American can be multiplied many times the production of finished tary goods to bring strength to the free world. : * n- No one knows, but the wise coal buyer Will fill hi* bin NOW when he’s sure of getting the exact kind of coal he wants * mi YOUR COAL BIN NOW! and you’ll avoid next winter’s uncertainties.
