FRIDAY, MAY 9, 1952 THE NEWBERRY SUN PAGE THREE Notice to Citizens of Newberry • K and Adjacent Areas to be Served by Natural Gas The Clinton-Newberry Natural Gas Authority has had a survey and engineer ing report made for the installation of a natural gas system to serve your city and the adjacent areas. A copy of the plans of the area to be served is on file in the City Hall of Clinton and of Newberry, and anyone who is interested in inspecting same may go to the City Hall to see if his residence or business establishment is proposed to be served. The Authority will, at an early date, commence the construction of this gas system. The Authority must have the name of each person who is interested in taking gas and the location of his residence or business establishment in order to know who will receive natural gas service. If the present plans have proposed a gas line up a street or road and suffi cient people are not interested in taking gas to warrant the investment then the Authority will eliminate these lines from the project. Therefore, it is necess ary that each citizen be interested in seeing that natural gas is installed on his street by getting all of the neighbors to agree to take same. Anyone who applies for natural gas by signing the application will have the service line run to his residence or business establishment, as the case may be. The applicant must pay One ($1.00) Dollar at the time of signing the application, and when all gas connections have been made he must, to get gas, make a fur ther deposit of $4.00. Upon his discontinuing to take gas the total deposited sum of $5.00 will be returned to the gas consumer, provided he is not in arrears for any gas bill. Any person who does not make application for gas prior to June 1, 1952 will not have the gas line run by the Authority to his residence or business establishment, and subsequently, if the person wishes gas he will have to pay the entire cost of running the service line to his residence or business establishment together with the cost of the meter and regulator, the total cost of which will amount to approximately One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars. All applications for gas are subject to the approval of the Authority and its Engineer, and no service line will be run unless the Authority and the Engineer approve of same. From all information which is available to the Authority, together with infor mation obtained from the Authority’s Engineer, which information is based upon the Engineer’s personal experience in constructing quite a number of gas sys tems, and from observing the operation of same, the Authority is convinced whe ther the purchase be for firm gas or otherwise, that the cost of gas.fuel is much cheaper than the cost of other types of fuel. • * ^ ¥ Subject to change by the Authority at any time, the Authority proposesto charge the following rates for gas service: FIRM GAS Domestic and Small Commercial Rate First 300 C.F $1.50 Minimum Monthly Bill Next 1,000 C.F. at. 15c Per 100 C.F. of gas Next 1,700 C.F at 13c Per 100 C.F. of gas Next 17,000 C.F at. 8c Per 100 C.F. of gas ' All Over 20,000 C.F ..at 6c Per 100 C.F. of gas Cut-On Fee $5.00 Cut-Off Fee $5.00 Minimum Monthly Bill $1.50 per Month for each month of the year. (No BTU adjustment) FIRM GAS Large Commercial and Industrial Rates Option A monthly demand charge of $3.20 per 1,000 C.F., based on the maximum quantitly of gas delivered to the customer on any day during the twelve (12) month’s period ending with the close of the current month, plus a monthly commodity charge of 28c per 1,000 C.F. of commodity consumption. Demand Charge—Minimum Monthly Bill Minimum Term of Contract—Three Yrs. or $100.00 a month whichever greater. NOTE: This rate applies only to customers using more than 600,000 CF/per year and less than 200,000 CF on any one day. (No BTU Adjustment) • It has been estimated that a customer who uses gas for heating a five room house which has 1,000 square feet of floor area, 9’ ceiling, an eaved roof without insulation, will consume the following monthly and yearly consumptions of natural gas, and the resulting monthly and yearly bills by applying the rate herein shown are as follows: Month Natural Gas Used for Space Heating the above described home Monthly Bill July 0 C.F. $ 1.50 August 0 C.F. 1.50 September 258 C.F. 1.50 October 3,216 C.F. 5.38 November 10,650 C.F. 11.33 December 17,122 C.F. 16.51 January 18,016 C.F. 17.22 February 14,936 C.F. 14.76 March 10,450 C.F. 11.17 April 4,460 C.F. 6.38 May 863 C.F. 2.35 June 29 C.F. 1.50 Total 80,000 C.F. $ 91.10 — - # — — — — — - This results in a cost of $18.22 per room for heating per year. TERRY, Chairman It should be borne in mind that natural gas is made available to the consumer year in and year out, whereas with coal, fuel oil or butane an order must be placed, storage facilities must be provided, and adequate supplies periodically hampered due to strikes, shortages, etc. The price of other types of fuels seems to have somewhat seasonal variations, whereas the prices of natural gas to the consumer are con stant during the year. It must also be borne in mind that the retail rates shown herein are deemed ade quate in every respect and should there be a change in the proposed rate structure it would be to the ad vantage of the consumer. The bringing of natural gas to your community will not only bring one of the cleanest and cheapest fuels to you, but will also go far in developing many small industries within your community. In order to know how many services will be required, it will be necessary for you to make an applica tion for service. The sale of revenue bonds for the f inancing of this gas system is contingent upon the Authority showing the bond buyers that a substantial portion of the citizens have placed the deposit for gas service. Therefore, please notify your Authority of your intentions and desires to obtain this public utility.
