Tour naments involving softball, vol ley ball, and quoit tossing are run off during the week, and swim ming under the guidance of high way patrolmen, Hoyt Baily and Oscar Derrick, is enjoyed at the trade school lake. Highlight of the recreational events is the “Governor’s’’ ball which is held on Friday night at the trade school gymnasium. Young ladies from Columbia and surrounding counties are guests of Boys’ State for this event. Walter A. Johnson, director, will preside at the Monday morn ing assembly. SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY Mrs. P. C. Plampin gave her daughter, Mrs. Billy Harmon a surprise birthday shower at her home on College street Extension, Wednesday night. Various games were enjoyed by her friends, after which she open ed her gifts.
