He proposed putting the De partment of Agriculture in the hands of a commission of farm ers, one for each congressional district elected by the legisla tive delegations of the district and each to represent a particu lar kind of agriculture, tobacco, cotton, peaches, truckers, cattle men. The commissioner would be hired by them. Bethea charged that his op ponent, Commissioner J. Roy Jones, is using Department of Agriculture people “paid by you and me” for campaigning and that they have “tom down my signs and put up has pic ture in my place.” He charged that Jones is using his market oulletin address list for sending out campaign cards. Mr. Bethea is a well-known farmer of Dillon county. He ran Jones a close second fooft’ years ago and is expected to win the race this year. After a scavenger hunt which took the students all over town they reassembled on the school campus for games, which were directed by Miss Mary Frances Long. The group then gathered around a pit fire and roasted weiners. Miiss Miriam Ballentine, home economics teacher, and H. B. Hendrix, agriculture teacher, chaperoned the party. in the evening, Grace Luther an Church, Prosperity, South Carolina. PTA Meets The last meeting of the Pros perity PTA for this school year was held Tuesday evening, with Mrs. G. W. Counts, presiding. Miiss Dorothy Leaphart, a high school student, conducted the devotions. Dr. and Mrs. Heasey of Newberry College showed slides of scenes in New berry county, and other places. The group enjoyed the pictures and realized the beauty of our own surroundings. The second' grade won the at tendance prize.
