So I’ll be seeing you Satur day at 12:36 p.m. over the air, Sunday in your daily paper, and on Thursday in you sifter- noon and weekly paper. “Day lilies growing wild by the roadside! Just look! And in California we have to go to great pains to grow them.” Thus spoke a man from out there who was riding with me recently. As I’ve told you, I’ve been around out there and in other parts of the West right much of late. I saw many wonder ful and interesting things. But none of them caused me to think the less of South Caro lina. In fact, if we developed our resources as they have they would be pointing to the won ders of the Southeast, I am sure. And the way we are awakening, they might be do ing that before many more years. I asked County Agent Cain of Calhoun if they had a com- nvunity organized in which to get all of the cotton poisoned early, as many other counties have. He said they had it, but their’s covers the whole county! Now, folks, that’s something new. Atod it will be watched with interest. Wte have often wondered if the boll weevil could not be held completely in check if all of the cotton was properly poisoned. This year we will get light on that subject. Three early dusts were applied to practically all of their cotton, according to Cain. And he tells me .that a number of those with large dusting machines went right on and poisoned the fields of the small neighbor or two who did not have a dusting mach ine. So the stage has been set. We will read the results from this fall and fell you about them. A considerable crowd of far mers and agricultural workers assembled at J. D. Kemp’s farm at Edgefield in early June to see Dr. Jamegan of the Uni versity of Georgia classify Mr. Kemp’s fine Jerseys. And that afternoon they went on over to Greenwood to classify those of Paul Lofton at Ninety Six. Quality animals is the aim of a number of Jersey breeders in the state who are thus screening the animals in then- herd. For, as Dr. Jarnegan pointed out the way a cow looks, according to dairy stan dards, has a lot to do with how she will milk..
