B & PW CLUB MET TUESDAY NIGHT The regular meeting of the Buisness and Professional Wo men’s club of Newberry met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. William Hunter. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Ethel Stone, the vice president, presided. A program devoted to the life and music of Carrie Jacobs Pond was presented by Mrs. J. P. Moon and Mrs. Ruby Abrams. After routine business discus sion, a delightful supper was served. Mrs. J. I. Copeland of Clinton and Florida visited friends in Newberry this week. The Young Adult Group o the Presbyterian Church met Tuesday night with Mr. and Mrs John Cannon at Newberry Col lege. Bowers, Newberry, and Sallie Grace Sizemore, Whitmire, Amick-Wilson Miss Evelyn Wilson and Eldred Amick, both of Prosperity, were married Saturday night at the home of the Rev. G. H. C. Parks, Chapin, pastor of the groom. They were accompanied by Miss Miriam Amick and Wyman Cook. Mrs. Amick wore a light blue suit and had a carnation corsage. She is the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wilson. She is a graduate of the Prosperity high school and is now working in Newberry. Mr. Amick is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Amick. He is a veteran of World War II, having served about two years in the European theater. The couple are with the groom’s parents. P. T. A. Meeting The October meeting of the P. T. A. of the Prosperity school was held Thursday night, Octo ber 23, in the school auditorium with Mrs. V. A. Long presiding. The Rev. McFerrin conducted the devotions. An interesting and helpful health program was presented. Dr. Claude Sease of the county health department, spoke on the immunization of children. He then presented Mr. Peeples of the State Health De partment who told of the work of the state deparment, and then presented a picture stressing health as a help in juvenile de linquency. Junior Club Party Patty Singley entertained the members of the Junior Club with a masquerade party Saturday night. Lovely arrangements of yellow and bronze dahlias were used throughout the party rooms. The prize for the most attrac tive costume was awarded to Dorothy Leaphart, who was dressed as a gypsy. A number of games were played with Dickie Counts, Ed na Bowers, and Guy Bowers a winners. After several games, a Hal lowe’en witch told stories an: the fortune of each guest. Horns and other noise makers were given as favors. Hot dogs, doughnuts and iced drink were served. Missionary Circle The Carl Caughman circle of the Missionary Society of Grace church met with Mrs. Elmer Shealy Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Robert Epting conducted devotions. The Rev. Carl Caugh man, social missions pastor of the S. C. Synod, talked to the group on social missions. During the social period the hostess served a salad course, cookies, and Russian tea. The Prosperity Garden Club will meet with Mrs. Lenora Wheeler Monday afternoon, No vember 3rd, at 3:30. The Dogwood Garden Club will meet with Mrs. H. L. Shealy Monday, November 3rd, at 3:30. Mable Hipp attended the an nual State 4-H achievement meeting and breakfast last Fri day and Saturday at the Jef ferson hotel in Columbia. Mable was the county representative in girls’ records, and was state winner, which entitles her to a trip to the national 4-H club congress in Chicago, November 30-December 4th. Mable is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Hipp. She is a member of the eleventh grade of the Prosperity high school. Miss Ruth Hawkins of Colum bia spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Hawkins. Mrs. Joe E. Freed of Colum bia visited her mother and aunt Mrs. E. W. Werts and Miss Kate Barre last week. Dr. ana Mrs. C. K. Wheeler, P. H. Barnes, J. Ray Dawkins, C. C. Boozer, and B. T. Young went to Columbia last Wednes day night to hear Hon. James F. Byrnes. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ballentine were Misses Jeannine and Miriam Ballentine of Winthrop college, Mr. and Mrs. David Lee of Cen tral, and Mr. anl Mrs. R. W. Ballentine of Cameron. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hunter and family of Columbia spent the weekend with the R. W. Hipps. Mrs. George W. Harmon was a guest speaker of the Greenville garden club Friday. She talked on flower arrangements, giving demonstrations. Miss Betty Counts of the Uni versity of South Carolina spent the weekend at her home here. Ralph Taylor of Laurens spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Singley ac companied by their daughter, Mrs. W. D. Callahan anl Mr. Callahan of Columbia, spent the weekend in the mountains of North Carolina. Mrs. W. D. Moore of the Hart ford community spent the weekend with Misses Mary and Susie Langford. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wise and their little daughter, Judy of Columbia were recent guests of Mrs. Wise’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Fellers. Fred Wheeler and his daugh ter, Frelna, of Statesville, N. C., spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. J. Sidney Wheeler. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Luther were Mrs. Dorothy Price and Miss Lucy Hall of Wilmington, N. C., and Mr. and Mrs. Heyward Singley and two daughters, Anna K., and Denby, of Columbia. Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Black were Mr. and Mrs. Linlsay Boozer and son, Dale, oi Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bedenbaugh and their little daughter, Linda, of Lexington, spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Mills and Mr. and Mrs. J. M Bedenbaugh. Mrs. T. L. Shealy of Newber ry was the weekend guest of her son, T. Julian Shealy and Mrs. Shealy. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Brissie anc their two sons spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Mills. J. A. Sease, who recently came home from the hospital, has had a number of his fam ily visit him during the past week. They were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sease and son of Atlanta, Ga.; Mr. and Mrs. Elton Sease and son, and Mrs. H. F.
