NED PURCELL, Manager TELEPHONE 197 Exchange Bank Bnilding Veterans Comer Questions that World War II veterans ask most frequently about job-training benefits und er the GI Bill were answered today by the Veterans Admini stration. The questions and answers follow: 1 Q. How much subsistence is paid for on-the-job training and what is the effect of the wage ceiling? A. Veterans in on-the-job training under the GI Bill re ceive $65 a month if they have no dependents, or $90 a month if they have one or more dep endents. If they are earning $175 (without dependents) or $200 (with dependents) exclus ive of their subsistence allow ances, they are not entitled to VA subsistence payments under the law. Q, Does VA find a job-train ing place for the veteran? A. No. That is the responsi bility of the veteran. However, veterans may get the assistance of state, municipal or other employment agencies in locat ing a job-training establishment. All VA offices maintain a list of approved establishments in the area in whiqh they are located. Q. Will VA pay tuition for a veteran attending high school while he is in job-training? A. Yes, provided his course of study is related to the vocation for which he is training, or the high school course is prescribed as a part of his job-training. Q. What happens if , the em ployer dismisses the veteran from his job-training situation? A. The veteran’s training status is terminated and his subsistence allowance ceases. It is then up to the veteran to seek another place of employ ment with approved job-train ing programs. Q. What should the veteran do if he is not satisfied with the job-training he receives? A. That is a matter for the veteran to decide for himself, but it might be advisable for him to seek the counseling of a VA training officer. He can al ways discontinue his training, or, with VA’s permission, he can switch to another training establishment. Q. What does VA do to make sure the veteran is receiving good training? A. Under the law, periodic inspections and checks of train ing establishments are required in accordance with nation-wide training and approval standards. (Veterans wishing further in formation about veteran’s bene fits may have their questions personally answered by visiting A. M. McWhirter, VA Contact Representative at 1216 College street, Newberry.
