A grand total of 4,339,350 bd. ft. of tim ber has been marked in the fis cal year 1946-47 which is almost twice as much as was marked in the year 1945-46. The commission is very en couraged over the apparent in terest in good forest manage ment and hopes that the coming year will show an even greater advance in individual initiative in the proper handling of our forest lands in the state. The commission urges the progres sive landowners to take full ad vantage of the information and assistance afforded them by their own state government. Mrs. Estes Hostess To Womens’ Club The Women’s Club held its last meeting of the club year at the home of Mrs. J. A. Estes on Thursday, May 22 at four p. m. The President, Mrs. E. G. Able presided with 21 members in attendance. Mrs. Hubert Setzler was the program leader for the after noon. She gave a splendid re view of Mrs. Oscar L. Keitt’s re cent book, “Dawn in Carolina”. Mrs. Geo. McCutcheon of Co lumbia gave a beautiful sketch of Mrs. Keitt’s life. Mrs. Mc Cutcheon and Mrs. Keitt have been close friends for many years. Mrs. Able closed the meeting with a few well-chosen words thanking the members of the club for their spendid coopera tion during the past year. She emphasized the object of the club as being “For the mutual instruction and improvement of its' members by acquiring a more intimate knowledge of his tory and literature and topics of the day. A delightful social hour fol lowed at which time delicious refreshments were served. New officers for the coming year were elected as follows: Mrs. J. E. Wiseman, president; Mrs. A. J.
