SATURDAY — Dress-Up Clean-Up And Refurnish Day. CITY SANITARIAN PLEDGES HELP IN DRIVE Mr. J. K. Willingham, Chrm. Clean Up-Paint Up-Fix Up Camp. Newberry, S. C. Dear Mr. Willingham: I want you to know that you will have my full support in your Clean- Up, Paint-Up, Fix-Up Campaign. I am sure that if this program is put over to the public in the manner you and your co-workers have out lined, the city should certainly win the third straight time. While our vacant lots are in fair condition, they act as a harbor for mosquitoes, rats, two of our worst pests and disease carriers. The city ordinance requires these lots be cleaned twice a year and surely no one can object to that. Most of our mosquitoes are bred and raised in old tin cans and stop ped gutters, a good reason for a good cleaning at this season. The oil from our filling stations di-ains into Scott creek, therefore, we have few mosquitoes breeding there. I, as City Sanitarian, think your program well arranged and is cer tainly needed i n Newbei-ry at this time for beauty and health. I as sure you I am for it one hundred per cent. Yours truly, J. S. LIDE, City Sanitarian. WILL WE BE WINNERS THIS TIME The Clean-Up, Paint-Up, Fix-Up campaign for Newberry will start bright and early Monday morning, May 13th and run through Saturday, May 18th. Let’s all get busy the first thing and really, do a good job of putting over this drive. As you know, we have won first place in the State on the Clean-Up campaign for the past two years, and we certainly don’t wont to lose this honor. The merchants are urged to paint the front of their stores as soon as possible, which adds more to the looks of a city than anything else to strangers who are passing through. Newberry is a pretty tow n and we want to keep it that way.
