The wed ding will be in the early spring. miS's'Mitchell honored AT MISCELLANEOUS PARTY Miss Elizabeth Mitchell, bride of January 10th, was honor guest at a lovely miscellaneous party given by Misses Eulalia Buford and Cathryn Dickert it the home of Mrs. W. J. Swittenburg on Harrington street Tuesday 7 afternoon. A dainty color scheme of bridal green, nandina berries and poinsettia was carried out in the decorations. The fifteen guests who enjoyed this lovely affair were presented with miniature rice bags tied with colorful ribbons, and after many enjoyable games the honor guests was present ed with a laundry basket filled to overflowing with miscellaneous gifts, which were admired by all present. Harman, 1004 Boundary street. The ring Ceremony was used. Among the witnesses of the ceremony were Miss Wenona Goings and Messrs. Wilson Johnson and Welton Philips. Mrs. Goings is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. DeHardt of 520 Wright street and has been employed in the Newberry Cotton Mills. Mr. Goings is the only son of Mrs. Victoria Goings of 2702 Milne street and the late Daniel B. Goings, Sr. He is a member of the U. S. Navy on a 30-day leave. They have the best wishes of their many friends. JOHNNY KINARD IN CHARLOTTE HOSPITAL The many friends of Johnny Kinard will be sorry to learn that he was admitted to the Charlotte Memorial Hospital, Charoitte, N. C., last Sun day, where he is receiving treatments prior to undergoing an eye operation next week. He expects to be in the hospital about a month. Ellerbe Pelham is “pinch-hitting” at the Wiseman Hotel for Johnny while he is away. Mrs. J. H. Thursday on account of the death of Mrs. Fennell’s grandmother, Mrs. G. O. Perry. Lonnie (Hop) Franklin will return to Washington, D. C. Sunday night after spending a month at his borne here on College street. He will be accompanied to Washington by his wife for au extended visit. The many relatives and friends of Mrs. W. H. Wendt of Wilmingon, N. C. and a former resident of Newbery, will regret to learn that she is criti cally ill with pneumonia at her home at Wilmington. Her brother John T. Cromer of this city reports her con dition as slightly improved when he left her bedside Wednesday after- Mrs. Louise Calmes of Tulsa, Okla., is spending this week with her sister, Mrs. Ruth Tidmarsh. She will leave Saturday for New York for two weeks study. Mr. a nd Mrs. S. C. Tindal have re turned to their home in Orangeburg after spending a while here with Mrs. Tindal’s parents, Mr. and Mrs C. E. Hutchinson on Boundary- street. JAMES M. SMITH, JR., M. B. 2|c, received his discharge from the Navy at Charleston on December 18th. .He volunteered for the Navy July 22. 1942, and spent two years overseas. On November 3, 1943, James was commended by the Commanding Gen eral First Marine Amphibious Corps for outstanding courage and devo tion to duty during the initial land ing on Bouganville, A. S. T. against enemy opposition while serving as a member of the Naval Advanced B.ase Unit No. 7. James is now at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James M. Smith on Calhoun street.
