The pleasant associations of friends and loved ones, the spirit of good feeling and love for our fellowman are in evidence everywhere and from these associations comes a stronger con- * fidence in those around us. Christmas is important! It is the t season of sincere good will, the spirit which should go with us the three hundred and sixty-four other days of the year. Let us each pledge ourselves toward this goal. Making Colored Flames For Christmas Fireplace Would you like beautifully col ored flames in the Christmas fire place? Here are a number of chem icals which may be added to shel lac as a carrier. Small pieces of wood may be painted with the mixtures, or the chemicals and shellac mixed with sawdust. Eggshell trinkets offer a variety of decorative possibilities. The shells can be salvaged from family bak ing days by run ning a darning needle through the shell at both 1 ends and blow- 1 ing out the con-j tents. If neces- 1 sary the holes can be enlarged so that a bright- colored string with a knot in the end can be' run through the egg, so that it g ngf*tf MERRY CHRISTMAS Whar can we say that would express all our wishes for the coming season? Best wishes to you, friends may be strungP gaily on the tree. Before stringing on the tree, shells may be colored all the hues of the rainbow, as at Easter time. Or de-’ signs in pencil on the shell may be' made in the form of scrolls, leaves or figures. The designs may be filled , In with colors, outlined with black I crayons. Christmas seals pasted on I white eggshells will be bright and shiny. Colored confetti dots can likewise be used on the eggs. Peanut dolls to hang on the tree can be made by stringing suitable sizes together and tying the cord tightly to keep them in shape. They can be painted gold or silver or any other color that will liven the tree and give the little folks a part in the decorative scheme. A half-dozen star Santas swinging from the tree will add interest. Make some five-pointed stars from heavy paper. Paste a Santa head onto the top point and design white mittens on tile next two, draw a belt and it’s done. B. C. MOORE & SONS Potted Yule Trees Can Be Used for Several Years The record of using the same Christmas tree for the last five holi day seasons is held by Mrs. H. R. Yount of Brunswick county in North Carolina. Mrs. Yount planted a small cedar by her farm house and the first Christmas it was about 15 inches high. She placed it in a pot and used it as a table tree with appropriate decorations. After the first Christmas, she re planted the small tree by the house, then dug it up again and placed it in a bucket on a table for its second holidays. Again it was replanted and the third year it took its place on the floor with the children adding the necessary decorations. It was very carefully treated and again reset by the house. For the last two years it has been used as an outside Christmas tree to carry all the lights and decorations. Mrs. Yount and the other mem bers of the family have made spe cial preparations for decorating the traditional Christmas tree again this The day of all days returns again! Christmas with all its joys and happiness, is the finest occa sion of all on which to reaffirm our faith in the people whom it has been our privilege to serve in the past.
