The Rev. C. A. Calcote, the pastor, officiated, using the double ring ceremony. Ferns, Southern smilax, white gladioli and dahlias and white can dles in tall branched candelabra dec- orated the church. Miss Mazie Dominick, organist, and Miss Edna Stone, vocalist, pre sented a musical program prior to the ceremony and Miss Dominick played the traditional wedding marches. Livin ton Davenport and Robert Davenport, brothers of the bride, were ushers and the bridegroom had as best man, his father, Wilbur E. Long. The bride’s maid of honor and only attendant was her aunt, Miss Essie Davenport. The bride, who was given in mar riage by her father, George T. Dav enport, was lovely in a street-langth two piece powder blue dress, small black hat and other accessories of black. She carried a prayer book topped with an orchid and showered with satin ribbon. Mrs. W. E. Long, mother of the bridegroom wore a black laca after noon gown with pink rosebud .cor sage, and Mrs. Davenport,the bride’s mother, a sequin trimmed black crepe dress with a corsage of red- carnations. Immediately after the ceremony the young couplj left for a wedding trip of two weeks to New York, gnd upon their return will be at home at No. 3 Purcell street with her par ents. Mrs. Long is the attractive daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. George T. Dav enport (Mable Livingston) of New berry. She is a graduate of New berry high school and attended New berry college where she pursued a commercial course. She has been employed as a secretary by the Mr. Long, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur E. Long, is also a Newberry high school graduate and is with the Western Auto Associate store. On Thursday evening the parents of the bricje entertained the members of the bridal party and a few close j relatives after the rehersal when a buffett supper was served. The din- ■ ing room was decorated with white flowers and ferns, and the table with a handsome lace cover was centered with a large chrystal bowl of white dahlias, and ferns and lighted with antique chrystal candle holders used by the great grandmother of the bride at her wedding. Tuesday evening prior to her wedding Vivian Davenport was given a delightful shower party by her sister in law, Mrs. Livingston Dav enport and Miss Virginia Senn at the home of the former when the bride elect received many lovely presents from the sixteen friends present. A salad course was served. Mrs. Harry Anderson and Mrs. Wallace Wheeler, members of the office force of the Fairfield Forest Products company, honored Miss Davenport with a three course luncheon on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clot k at the Wiseman hotel, when covers were arranged for ten close friends, and lovely corsages weie used as place cards. A central table decoration of white dahlias and fern was used and the guests pre sented the honoree with many lovely handkerchiefs. RODDEY - SUMMER Of cordial interest to many friends was the marriage of Mrs. Kathryn Jones Roddey and Thomas Young Summer, both of Newberry, which took place in Greenwood Friday af ternoon, September 28th in the pre sence @f relatives of the couple. The Rev. G. H. Moon, pastor of the South Main street Baptist church officiated using the double ring rit ual, and the ceremony was perform ed at his residence. PHONE 158 The bride is the attractive young daughter of Mr and Mrs. M. A. Jones, and received her education in the Newberry schools and Newberry college. Mr. Summer, son of Mr and Mrs. C. Forrest Summer, was recently discharged from the United States Army after serving more than four yeais, with about three years over seas service. He went overseas with Lt. Col T. H. Pope’s former National Guard company of Newberry and was in the Anti-Aircraft outfit and later was in the Infantry Division and served in England, North Africa, Tunisa, Sicily, Italy, Southern France, and Germany with the rank of Sergeant. Mr. and Mrs. Summer, after a short wedding trip will be at home at 2207 Nance street, in Newberry, where he is employed with the Sa luda River Wood Products company of Charlotte, N. .C. Hershel Ford of ficiating. Mrs. Waymond Rakestraw pre sented a music program and played the traditional wedding marches. Miss Virginia Hiatt was her sis ter’s maid of honor. The bride was lovely in a chic fall model of Navy blue gabardine suit with harmonizing accessories and completed with a shoulder corsage of white orchid. Among the out-of-town guests at tending the wedding were: Misses Ruby and Edith Kilgore of Newberry, and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Kilgore and daughter, Sybil, of Florence. After the wedding breakfast at the Georgian Terrace hotel, the couple left for a motor trip through the Great Smoky Mountains. FOSTER IS NEW MANAGER Roy Foster has arrived in New berry to become manager of the lo cal Dixie Home Super Market, suc ceeding Ben C. Chapman, resigned. Mr. Foster, a native of Hartwell, Georgia, comes here from Chester where he was manager of the Dixie Home store for the past 2 years He is married and has three young children and hopes to move his fam ily here as soon as living quarters can be secured. Mr. Chapman, who has managed the Dixie Home store for several years, resigned his position to en ter a business of his own here.
