> FRIDAY, MAY 18, 1945 {Xoirnty LADIES’ AUXILIARY HONORS MISS ALLEN The Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Little River-Dominick church entertainel Miss Luella Allen a popular bride- elect, at the home of Mrs. J P. Boozer, May 4th from 4:00 to (5:00 in the afternoon. The entertainment committee consisted of Mrs. Boozer, Mrs. H. T. Oxner and Mrs. T. R. Davis members of the Auxiliary. The living rooms were attractively decorated with flowers of the season. Thirty-five friends of the bride-elect were present. Upon arrival, the guests were greeted by the entertainment com mittee. As the guests entered Mrs. Davis pinned favors. These were tiny bags of rice made from bridal veil, tied with gold ribbon. The bride-elect was presented a corsage made of white rosebuds, tied with white satin ribbon. , Contests were enjoyed by those piesent and the prizes were useful kitchen articles. These were present ed to Miss Allen by the winners. The honoree was sent on a treasure hunt, at the end of which were many love ly and useful gifts, including a beau tiful handmade quilt presented by the Ladies’ Auxiliary. Delicious refreshments were serv ed by Mrs. Boozer and Mrs. Oxner. Miss Allen’s engagement to Rev. F J. Harmon of Laurens has been announced; the wedding to take place May 29th. PARTY GIVEN FOR MRS. EDWARD LANE Mrs. P. B. Dawkins and Mrs. Ed gar Marse entertained last Thursay evening at the home of Mrs. Dawkins on Main street in honor of Mrs. Ed ward Lane, the former Gladys Mac- Dowell, a recent bride. The home was arranged with flow ers of larkspur and roses. Bingo was played and prizes were given to the winners. Mrs. N. E. Darby win ning first for bingo and Mrs. Mazie Abrams second. The contest prize fell to Mrs. George W. Martin. The honor guest’s place was desig nated with a corsage of white car nations. Assisting Mrs. Dawkins and Mrs. Marse in serving a salad course and tea to the twenty guests who en joyed this lovely party, were Mrs. 0. O. Copeland and Mrs. Lottie Bowers. EISENHOWER HEADS OCCUPA TION TROOPS Washington, May 11—Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower and Lt. Gen. Lucius D. Clay were named today to head the American part of a “stern” mili tary government in Germany. Eisenhower will be top marf in the setup and Clay, officially described as “tough-minded,” will be chief deputy handling actual operations. Among other things Clay will super vise “then entire denazification pro gram” and the “ruthless” suppres sion of underground activity. In an outline of organizational plans for the occupation, the Army announced that Eisenhower will be American member of the over-all control council on which Russia, Brit ain and France will be represented. He will also be military commander of the American occupation zone, which is yeLto be officially delineat ed. GeneraPClay will be his deputy in both capacities. The Army announcement said Clay was “hand picked by President Roose velt for the direction of the occupa tion of Germany.” It described him as “a tough minded soldier with thorough understanding and exper ience in the balance between military necessity an civilian requirements.” Print Dress Will Swell Bond Funds Make warm weather togs.
