RECENT TRANSACTIONS OF CITY COUNCIL City council recently raised the salaries of all city employees with the exception of aldermen and the mayor, resulting in the following pay scale: clerk and treasurer $220 per month, chief of police $165 per month, patrolmen $126.50 per month, health officer $165 per month. Coun cil added 3 mills to the levy to take care of these increases but later recinded this action, caring for the increases out of extra revenue, or running it as a deficit. Council also has agreed to pay $25 per month on the $75 monthly rent on the Bowers Insurance build ing for the offices of the rationing board. Mayor Langford went on record as objecting to the payment of this $25 on the rent out of city funds. He objected on the grounds that the rationing board is federal controlled and pointed out that the government is paying such rent in many counties over the state. The county is paying $50 of the $75 for rationing board quarters, in addition to $50 for the chairman of the rationing board, and $10 to each member of the board.
