FRIAY, APRIL 10, 1942 THE NEWBERRY fWW PACE FIVE dUR FRIEND: NELL DAVIS “None knew her but to love hci, None named her but to praise.” Truly this can be said of our dear friend, Nell Davis, who, on Febru ary 2nd. heard and answered the call: “Well done, good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. She was indeed “good and faith fill" in all the relations of life;—to her Lord and His Church, to her family, friends, and business asso ciates. Her consecrated, Christian life, so radiant with the fruit of the Spirit, was an inspiration to her friends, and enriched the life of each one with whom she came in contact. She was a loyal, generous and de pendable member of The Lucy B Hunt Bible Class, and as chairman of the Business Women’s Circle she did an outstanding work for her Master. She served Him, too, in do ing for others the many little deeds of kindness which cost so little, yet mean so much. Her cheerful friendly greeting and happy smile, her unselfish loyalty and untiring spirit of helpfulness endeared her to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. “To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.” “There is no death for her whose fairest deeds, Transmuted into other lives, live on. Through time’s revolving years. Her soul From earth stains cleansed, In that deep, everlasting fountain oped. By God’s own holy hand, Stands white before His throne. For her—no death, But fragrant immoxtality.” IN MEMORY OF (OUR FRIEND NELL DAVIS Member of the Lucy B. Hunt Bible Class and President of the Business Women’s Circle of the W. M. S. of 1st Baptist Church, Newberry, S. C. “Death is the messenger of peace Who calls the Soul to heaven” “It is not dying when our friends In Jesus fall asleep.” Asleep in Jesus! O how sweet To me for such a slumber meet With holy confidence to sing That death has lost his venomed sting.” On the morning of February 2, 1942 the summons came to the gentle consecrated soul of our dear ly beloved friend and co-worker, Nell Davis, who by the wondrous grace of God had been made for such a slumber meet. For her no fear, no dread dimmed the hour which brought her into the presence of the Saviour whom she adored. Ready to go or ready to stay, just as the Father willed was the mes sage she wrote to friends. Many earnest prayers from many friends were ipoured out for her recovery, but the wise and loving heavenly Father, to whom she had committed 'herself, willed otherwise and took her home where God himself shall wipe away all tears and there shall be no more death neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. She radiated unselfish ness, love and the law of kindness were in her thoughts and on her tongue. To know her in her beau tiful Christian character was to ad mire and to love her. To her to spend and to be spent in the service of her Master and in all kinds of loving ministrations to her family and her friends was al ways a joy. She knew the real meaning of true friendship exempli fying the friend who stieketh closer than a brother. Her understanding sympathy was rarely to be found. The influence of such a spirit and life can never die but will live on and on the memory of those who were privileged to know her and to feel the glow of her radiant life— “She is just away! With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand She has wandered away into the glory land. And left us dreaming how very fair If needs must be since she lingers there. Think of her faring as dear In the love of the others as the love of the here. Think of her still as the same I say She is just away! We shall miss her sorely but feel it were selfish to wish her back from the joys of heaven since the Father wished her going. RESOLVED THAT, We the mem bers of the Lucy B. Hunt Bible and of the 1st Baptist church Business Women's Circle individually and collectively have been bereft indeed in Nell’s passing but bow in sub mission to our Father’s will that we follow her as she followed Christ, that we may be ready when our summons come. That we extend to every member of her family our deepest sympathy, for we share their sorrow and loss. That a copy of this tribute and resolutions be sent her family, a copy inscribed in our minute book and a copy be given for publication. “Asleep in Jesus blessed sleep From which none ever wake to weep— A calm and undisturbed repose Unbroken by the last of foes.” Feb. 8, 1942. )K HERE—Add 2000 to 3000 lies to the life of your tires by ing them re-grooved, thereby cut out road friction which wears r tires so rapidly.
