Then came a primary election. Two good men opposed the salary grabber. That was the issue. What happened? The salary grabber and gourmet sent those hungry boys into political oblivion without a second race THE NOBLES AND THEIR TACTICS Calhoun Times: There is an interesting back-sal ary controversy going on in Ander son County, according to The Inde pendent newspaper of that satrapy. The foods listed for a Food Standard total about 2,136 pounds or more than a ton. If you bought a year’s supply in the grocery store, it 'would cost $100 or a little more which means a value of about $100 a ton. How many crops can you grow that have a money value of $100 per ton? Cottonseed is 1938 was $20 a ton, com $10 and less, and wheat around $10. In addition to growing their food and feed, people must live on the land. Developing programs and plans and executing plans together will mean some changes. The wo men must become interested in the cotton Improvement and livestock production and men must no longer assinpe that women are not interest ed in such programs. Plans and in ventories should be made by women and men together. All of usi—men, women, boys, and girls—will have to be concerned with developing the areas on which we dwell in the right way. This may mean that we will have to break some of the old tradi tions but we must live now and not in the past. The following statements taken from a Regional Circular of S. C., Georgia, and Alabama gotten out by the Bureau of Agricultural Eco nomics of the U. S. Department of Agriculture will undoubtedly be of interest to us—“Poultry production per capita is highest in S. C. but the proportion of poultry production used in homes is low. Milk production per capita is highest in Alabama, and lowest in S. C. Home consumption is highest in Alabama and lowest in South Carolina. The proportion of production that is used in farm homes is also highest in Alabama and lowest in South Carolina. A large part of the farm population in South Carolina owns no cows. “Egg production per capita is about equal in Georgia and Alabama and is higher than in South Carolina. Home consumption is highest in Ala bama and lowest in South Carolina. “Home consumption per capita in 1935, of com was highest in Ala. and lowest in S. C. of wheat was high est in S.
