E. H. Talbert, PMrict Director in Colum bia, said today. A thorough investigation of the poultry situation revealed that nric°s paid to producers for live poultry of all kinds are still pres- rincr ceilings in many areas, Mr Talbert pointed out. As for wholesale prices, light turkeys and heavy fowls press on ceilings in the greatest number of areas, he added. Although recent prices have shown some weakness, as they always do at this time of the veav. Mr. Talb°rt exolained. a study of seasonal trends on poul try prices shows that the lew point comes in October and rises to a high point in May. Prize Livestock Free , From Con trols— T wo stock calves and hogs ex hibited and auctioned at recog nized fairs are exemnt from price control. OPA District Director E. H. Talbert said today. This ap plies to all exhibitors, as well as 4-w clubs and FFA members. The exemption was granted to encourage exhibitors to return to their peacetime showings, Mr. Talbert explained. Since fairs stimulate interest in improving livestock and have a real educa tional value, OPA feels that ex hibitors should be granted this price exemption, he added. No Fxtra Sugar Now— Industrial and institutional u- sers of sugar were advised today bv OPA District Director E. H. Talbert that allotments will be coninued at the same levels for the first quarter of 1946 as dur ing tho fourth quarter of this year. The only exception is for products which include jams, jellies, fruit butters, and mar malades. Sugar allotments for institution al users for the Januarv-February neriod will be computed on the basis of the same per-meal al lowances as at the present, Mr. Talbert said. At the same time he announced tbot. Ru^ar Stamp No. 39 will be validated for consumer purchase of five pounds of sugar on Jan- uarv 1, and will expire April 30. The civilian sugar allocation for the first quarter of 1946 recently announced by the U. S. Depart ment of Agriculture is not suffici ent to permit increasing rations to various types of users, Mr. Tal- ber said. Such is sorely needed in a war- torn world. Christmas brings hope to the world—hope of peace, but; peace “among men,” the Revised! Version has it, “in whom he is well ; pleased.” So may there be joy in; your hearts because Jesus dwells - therein and casts out all fear. Christmas should be, first of all, the Lord’s birthday. How could it be otherwise? When some use it only; as a holiday and a time of huge feasting and merrymaking.
