His father was a Greek and his mother a Jewess. We find him with Paul and Silas at Berea, with Paul during his first imprisonment in Home, and later in Asia. Left in charge of the Ephesus church, it is thought that he became “bish op” of it. Paul loved Timothy dearly, called him his son in the gospel, and was deeply concerned Tor the younger man’s success. Paul’s final words, written from prison In Rome, are indeed touch ing. Think of the prisoner for Christ writing of the closing of his own career. As in death itself we find comfort in the blessed consolations of the New Testa ment, let us find courage and strength in the thought of the re ward that awaits the faithful. And let us also fight “a good fight” as believing there are laid up for us crowns of righteousness.
