Dowtin, near town. Mrs. J. R. Crawford and grand daughter, little Miss Mary Lee Btiroueron, spent last week in Au gusta with Mrs. Crawford’s daugh ter, Mrs. Effie Lee Furqueron. made his home in Columbia for the past 50 years. His daughter. Mrs. R. E. Edwards, who was in jured in the same accident, is still a patient in a Columbia Hos pital. Mr. E. F. Pussey of Modoc was among the visitors here yesterday. Friends of Mr. M. M. Wall will' be glad to know that he is getting along nicelv after his operation at Anderson Hospital, and has re turned to his home. Mr. D. P. McCain of Nashviue, N. C., spent the week end hero with his father, Mr. G. P. McCain. Mr. D. M. McGrath and daugh ter. Miss Helen, spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. J. C. O o v* ^ Mrs. Edward Ronaeau of Greenville. Mr. C. E. Wilkie of Plum Branch was a visitor here Monday. Mri Jimmie P. Talbert has re turned to his home in the Reho- both community from the Green wood Hospital where he under went an operation. He is report ed as doing nicely. Mr. J. W. McBride of Willmgton was a visitor here yesterday. Rev. and Mrs. James Bruce and little daughter of Greenville spent several days near town this week with Miss Minnie Talbert ana other relatives. Rev. and Mrs. L. K. Simpson re turned home Wednesday from a visit of several days in Greenville. Mr. Simpson made the Founders' Day address at the North Green ville Junior College on Monday morning. Mr. John Harris, momm 2c, U. S. N., and Mrs. Harris of Wash ington, D. C., visited relatives here the past week. Mrs. E. Widincamp has return ed to her home in Reidsville, Ga., after spending seven weeks with her father, Mr. M. M. Wall. folk, Va., announce the birth of an eight pound daughter, Brenda Elizabeth, on Saturday, January 15th. Mrs. Wells is the former Miss Mary Elizabeth Giles of McCormick. Miss Lucretia Roper of Colum bia spent the week end in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Roper, of Troy. Mrs. L. L. Wescott and Mrs. Royce Dominick of Columbia spent several days here the past week with their Preston Finley. . brother, Mr. John . Columbia, was killed in an auto mobile accident about six miles from the city on January 8th. He was 74 years of age and was for merly of McCormick, but had r. Your Navy Wants Stenographers, Typists And Clerks The Navy is offering interesting opportunities to civilii n.i who wish to play a direct part m the war program. By replacing men in uniform who are needed at the front, these civilians will be n°r- forming. a patriotic duty and an important task. Stenographers, clerks, accounting and auditing clerks, are needed by the Navy in Washington, and those who meet Civil Service require ments will be hired on the spot. Transportation is furnisb^d each civilian appointee to Washington at erovernment exnense. Reserva tions for comfortable single rooms, at only $24.75 a month are made for these recruits at one o f the r todern government Residence Halls. On arrival in Washington, the new recruits are met at the station by a special Navy repre sentative who welcomes them, and who sees to it that they are safely transported to their desti nation. Miss Velora Ward and Miss Holly Maguire, Navy Recruitment Representatives, will be in Green wood, S. C., from January 24 to January 25, in order to interview interested persons, give qualifying t^cts and make on-the-spot ap pointments. Persons over 17 1-2 years of age are eligible, pro vided that they are not already engaged in war work requiring equal skill. Appointments will be made in accordance with War Manpower Commission rules and regulations. Miss Ward and Miss Maguire, who come from the Wasnington offices of the Navy, are enthusi astic about the pleasant livimg end working conditions there. The new Residence Halls, they ^ay, are the last word in comfort and convenience and are located in sections of Washington > con venient to the Navy buildings.
