Kilpatrick, in Charlotte, N. C., at this time. Mrs. W. M. Freeland returned on last Thursday from Trenton, N. J., where she has visited with Pvt. Freeland, who is with the Armed Forces. While away she also vis ited her sister, Mrs. G. C. Bowen, and Mr. Bowen, in New York. Miss Cornelia Freeland went to Augusta Tuesday where she is en tering the University Hospital Nurses’ Training School. Miss Lucy Brown of McCormick has taken up her duties here a- gain in the school, which started on last Thursday. Mrs. Lillie Langley left Tuesday for an extended visit to her daugh ters, Mrs. J. S. Shuter, of Jackson ville, Fla., and Mrs. W. R. Oesting, of Miami. Mrs. Donie Wells, Mrs. Cobb Wells and Miss Wilma Wells of Port Royal spent the week end with friends and relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. J. Ashton Chandler and little son, Julian, of Rock Hill spent the past week end with Mrs. Chandler’s sister, Mrs. W. M. Freeland. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Robertson of Augusta visited in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. N. Robertson, a few days recently. McCormick’s fighting Panthers were out weighed at every position by the powerful Washingtonians. McCormick depended mostly on backfield deception while Wash- ngton gained their ground on straight plays. The Panthers fought hard but were overpowered by the Washington squad. IX T Greenwood Tops McCormick McCormick dropped their sec ond game of the season to Green wood High School at Greenwood Friday night. Sept. 25th. Green wood ran wild during the entire first half. McCormick's plays didn’t go and they failed to stop Greenwood’s scoring attempts. Greenwood made all their scores during the first half. In the last half McCormick buckled down and played them a ball game. McCormick failed to score but held Greenwood scoreless during the last period. The final score was 22-0. A. Scott Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Gladys Bowyer of Ander son visited her relatives here last week. Quite a sudden change in tem perature here, air feels frosty. We had nice rains Saturday and Sun day. Mr. Herman Smith of Spartan burg spent three days here last week. Misses Reba Wells and Beffie Hester of Anderson spent a few pleasant days in Mt. Carmel last week. Miss Virginia Watson of Boiling Spring School spent the past week end at home. With the emphasis on Victory, sharply delineated in many ex hibits of war activities and food production, the 72nd State Fair will open October 19 for its six- day run at Columbia, determined to provide South Carolinians with an. idea of the contribution their state is making to the war ef fort, along with some . much- needed recreation. The Fair is donating exhibit space to the various war groups such as bond and stamp sales, Red Cross, etc., and those desiring this space, have only to make their wants known to the man agement, Paul V. Moore, the secretary, has announced. Con sistent with its policy of many years for the improvement of ag riculture, The Fair also is devot ing a large amount of space to the “Food for Victory” movement. Clemson college and various agen cies are cooperating in this. Amusements and recreation have not been forgotten by the planners of the fair and an excellent grand stand show has been provided, to gether with as large and fine a midway as there is on the road. Within the last several years, the grandstand shows and midway have come to be among the out standing features of the fair. The Carolina-Clemson game will be played at 2 p. m. Thursday.
