But the Kaiser tried to make his men feel that God was on their side because he realized faith of that kind would be one of the strongest morale builders he could use. There is no doubt in this war that the things we are fighting for—freedom to live as we please, freedom to worship as we please and the preservation of a way of life which is respected by all nations—spring from the very core of religion. And there is no doubt that the things we are fighting against—conquest, en slavement of people and the de struction of culture—are, and always have been, the enemies of religion. L When we are fighting such a truly religious War, spiritual ar mament of our people should be considered every bit as important as the production of planes, tanks and guns. JYom The Index-Journal, Green wood, May 8. Doctors do not have a forty- hour week but on the contrary have a seven-day week with many •f the twenty-four hours of each 4ay in service, remarked Dr. G. E. McDaniel, of the State Board of Health in a talk in Columbia yes terday. Dr. McDaniel mentioned some workers who put in seven hours each day for five days only. That makes thirty-five hours. Then he gave the hours of doctors in com parison. People might save doctors much time and energy if two rules were followed, Dr. McDaniel added. First, do not call for a doctor “in haste” unless the case is real ly urgent. Some pepole call as if it was a matter of life and death when as a matter of fact the pa tient was in no danger and an hour or two’s delay would have not hurt in he least.' Second, do not call a doctor in the evening or on Sundays unless the case is urgent. Doctors are wonderfully patient people and keep themselves under Creat self-control. In his speeches, the President has, on several occasions, empha sized the religious significance of the war and an analysis of his words make it evident that he has a deep spiritual side which has given him strength to cope with his own physical handicaps and with critical problems of the nation. When religious faith has served him so well in his personal life and in his work, it seems only logical that he should consider dt a vital part of our war pro gram to see to it that the whole nation shares his faith. A Department of Spiritual Ar mament, if directed by the most respected leaders of all religious denominations, would be wel comed by a nation which has to take something more than that to put this battered world togeth er again. —Buy War Savings Bonds— x ___ / Health Department ’ Gives Summary Of Work Done In April The following is a summary of the work done by the McCormick County Health Department for the Month ending April 30, 1942: 20 postpartum patients attend ed the Postpartum clinic.
