T. Settles, colored, vol unteer, alternate. xx 613 Men Will Be Inducted In Febru ary And March In South Carolina From The Fourth Corps Area Under Selective Service System Columbia, S. C., Jan. 27.—South Carolina will be called on to sup ply only 613 men of 14,771 to be inducted in February and March from the Fourth Corps Area under the Selective Service system, it was announced today by General Holmes B. Springs, state director of Selective Service. The quota assigned the state comprises 416 white men and 197 Negroes, the general added. The selectees, all of whom will report to Fort Jackson for formal induction prior to being sent to J;he reception center at Fort Bragg, will begin arriving in Columbia on February 17 and will arrive at the rate of approximately 60 per day through March 4. Major George C. Warren, de livery and induction officer at state headquarters, has already begun the task of determining quotas for the state’s 33 local boards and said that board quotas would be announced early next week. Under the quota schedule an nounced today. Alabama will be called on for 2,325 men: Florida, 2,343; Georgia, 1,332; Louisiana, 2,028; Mississippi, 2.941; North Carolina. 1,655; South Carolina, 613; and Tennessee, 1,534. The schedule of arrivals at Fort Jackson from South Carolina local boards calls for 66 on Febru ary 17; 60 on February 18; 60 on February 19; 60 on February 20; 60 on February 21; 60 on February 24; and 50 on February 25. All of them will be white selectees. Negro selectees are scheduled to arrive as follows; 50 on February 27; 50 on February 28; 50 on March 3; and 47 on March 4. General Springs expressed grati fication at the low call made on South Carolina for February and March and expressed the belief that it was due to the state's patriotism in supplying voluntary enlistments. A proportionatejy larger number was called during December as compared with other states. Through March 4, South Caro lina will have supplied 2,307 selectees from an estimated qu<,ta of 5,957 assigned the state through Tune 30. The original quota may be revised, however, since the armed forces are in the process of securing home address cards from those now serving in order to de termine just what proportion of men should be supplied by each state. | cmmcrt | McsNoromiDio PLUM BRANCH GROUP OF BAPTIST CHURCHES.
