Talbert, who un derwent an operation at the Providence Hospital in Columbia about three weeks ago, returned to his home here last Thursday, and continues to improve satis factorily. Mr. R. N. Edmunds of Parksville was a visitor here Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Connor and children from Union spent the wefk end here with relatives. Visitors in the home of Mr. D. McGrath-Garrett Mr. and Mrs. J. T. McGrath announce the marriage of their daughter Mary Elizabeth to Julian A. Garrett of Augusta, Ga., on October 26, 1940. Plans are on foot to paint and repair the parsonage here. xx Cotton Growers Will Vote In Referendum A call for all eligible McCormick county cotton growers to vote In the marketing-quota referendum on Saturday, December 7, is made by M. A. Bouknight, county agent. Reviewing the referendum back ground, Mr. Bouknight points out that there are two important facts for growers to consider: First, that a marketing quota is provid ed by the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938 when cotton supplies are 7 per cent or more above normal, and, second, that a two- thirds majority of the growers voting in the Cotton Belt is re quired to put quotas into effect. Today’s cotton supplies are 37 per cent above normal, he states. The world supply of American cot ton is estimated at 25 million bales, as compared to the normal supply—which is made up of nor mal exports and domestic con sumption plus an adequate al lowance for carry-over—of about 18 million bales. “Each grower has a vital inter est in working toward the best price possible for his cotton”, Mr. Bouknight states. “He needs to consider marketing quotas :n terms of surplus cotton supplies and reduced consumption due to the present European war. “Every farmer who produced cotton in 1940 should go to his community polling place on De cember 7, and express his opinion on quotas for 1941.
