Union service at the A. R. P. Church here that evening at 7:45. xx Robinson-Burgess Miss Susan Robinson and Jack Burgess were united in marriage on October 25th in Abbeville, S. C., with the Rev. T. J. Byers offi ciating. Mrs. Burgess is the daughter of Mrs. Hallie P. Robinson. Mr. Bur gess is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Burgess formerly of Liberty. X Speer-Sturkey Miss Ethel Elizabeth Speer, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Foster Speer, and Oscar L. Sturkey of Plum Branch were united in mar riage Saturday afternoon, October 19, at 4:30 o’clock at the home of the bride’s parents in Plum Branch, with relatives and a few close friends present. The Rev. Mr. Speer, who is pastor of the Saint Paul Methodist church in Plum Branch, officiated, using the ring ceremony. Vows were spoken before an improvised altar of ever greens and tall, baskets of giant white chrysanthemums, lighted by cathedral tapers. Preceeding the ceremony, Mrs. E. C. Rice, at the piano, played “Londonderry Air,” “Ave Maria” and “Liebestraum.” Just before the benediction in the ceremony. Miss Martha Speer, sister of the bride, sang “Oh Perfect Love.” For the wedding, Mrs. Sturkey wore a soldier blue costume suit with accessories of black. She wore a corsage of pink roses and carried a small Bible with ivory covers. She is a graduate of Win- throp College and for the past several years has taught in the schools of Woodruff. Mr. Sturkey is the son of the late Annie Collier and Milledge B. Sturkey of Plum Branch. After six years’ service in the U. S. navy, he returned to Plum Branch where he has been a leader in the social, civic and religious life of the community. He has been mayor of Plum Branch since 1935. Following the ceremony Rev. and Mrs. Speer entertained with an informal reception. Coffee was poured by Mrs. S. E. Murdock of Williamston, while Mrs. Speer and Miss Martha Speer served cakes, cretin and mints. Other out of town guests present were, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sturkey, Mr. Ralph Sturkey, Jr., Salisbury, N. Strom-Patnode * Centering widespread interest is the announcement of the mar riage of Miss Virginia H. Strom of McCormick and Charles Hunt Pat- node of New Haven, Conn., which was quietly solemnized in the Church of The Transfiguration, “The Little Church Around the Corner,” New York city, Saturday afternoon. October 26, at 3:30 o’clock. The impressive ring cere mony was performed by the pastor, Rev. Randolph Ray, with members of the immediate families of the couple witnessing. Mrs. Patnode is the second daughter of Sheriff and Mrs. W. T. Strom of McCormick. After graduating from the McCormick high school, she attended Win- college. Rock Hill, and Strayer Business college, Washing ton, D. C. Widely connected by one of the pioneer families in this section, she is one of McCormick’s loveliest girls, and has taken an active part in the social and re ligious life of the community. For her wedding she wore a handsome wool suit of soldier blue with blue fox jacket. Her acces sories were black and her flowers a corsage of pink rosebuds and valley lilies. Mr. Patnode is the son of Mrs. Helen Hunt Patnode and the late Frederick L. Patnode of Brandon, Vt. He was graduated from the University of Vermont with Ph. B. degree. Being a talented musi cian he was prominent in campus activities and a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He is now with the United States Treasury department in the Secret Service division and stationed at their, New Haven office. Cason-Link Beautiful in its simplicity was the wedding of Miss Mary Cason and Mr. Erskine Link, which was solemnized at the Cason home on the Abbeville-McCormick highway, Sunday, October* 20, at five o’clock in the afternoon. An artistic arrangement of white chrysanthemums, Southern smilax and fern, in the living room, made a lovely setting for the cere mony. A corner of the room was banked with ferns, in front of which stood tall candelabra con taining white tapers. White ped estals holding low bowls of white chrysanthemums completed the improvised altar where the couple spoke their vows. Rev. J. P. Byars, pastor of the bride, officiated. Mr. Norman Cason, brother of the bride, and Mr. Horace McCal- lister, cousin of the bride, lighted the candles and preceded the bride and groom to the altar. There were no other attendants and the young couple entered to gether. Miss Cason wore a fall model of freshman light wool in soldier blue with black accessories and shoulder bouquet of tube roses and red rose buds. Immediately after the ceremony the group of wedding guests, which included only members of the two families and a few close friends, were invited into the din ing room where salad, coffee and mints were served. Here, too, the green and white color scheme was carried out. A three-tiered cake with a top decoration of wedding bells made an attractive center for the lace covered table. Mrs. Link is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cason. She has held a position with the T. A. Able store in Abbeville for several years. Mr. Link is the son of Mrs. J. J. Link and the late Mr. Link of Bor deaux. He is in business in Ab beville. After a wedding trip to Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Link are at home to their friends at 49 Greenville Street, Abbeville.
