Mrs. Jack Scruggs returned home Saturday from a visit of several days in the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. s. Truluck in Spar tanburg. Mrs. Truluck and chil dren accompanied her home for a visit of a week or more. Mrs. W. P. Parks, Jr., who underwent an operation at the Wilhenford Hospital in Augusta, Ga., last Friday, is reported to be getting along very nicely and ex pects to return to her home here Sunday. Miss Louise Christian spent the past week end in Aiken with relatives and friends. Mrs. J. Mikel Leland of Withers- by is spending several days this week in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Edmunds, of the Buffalo community. Mrs. E. L. Rogers and Mrs. Wessie Hitt spent last week end in Hemingway. Mr. D. M. McGrath, Mr. Michael McGrath, Misses Helen and Geor gia King McGrath spent Sunday in Greenville with Mrs. J. C. Massey and Miss Hettie McGrath, and Miss Annie McGrath of Char lotte, N. C., who had been on a visit to Mrs. Massey and Miss Hettie McGrath for a few days. The Lander Club will meet Tues day, March 19, at 3:30 o’clock with Miss Helen Bradley in the home of Mrs. L. W. Free land, Mrs. Yates Webb, and Mrs. Bill Bracknell entertained in honor of Mrs. William Fooshe, popular bride. The entire receiving rooms were adorned with spring flowers in profusion, the bride’s place being marked by a lovely corsage of early spring blossoms. The large number of guests be came acquainted by guessing the advertiser of slogans which were pinned on each person at the door. Mrs. Yates Webb presided over the bride’s book. Conversa tion by couples on different topics relating to matrimony proved in teresting. The entertainment was climaxed with an automobile con test at the close of which Miss Louise Bracknell read an original parody while little John Luther Bracknell entered in his car load ed with gifts for the honoree, pre ceding the hostesses who carried numerous beautiful and useful gifts also. The hostesses served Russian tea with sandwiches and cookies and attractive bridal favors. Beta Club Presents Carnival At Com- munity House The Beta Club of the McCor mick High School presented a car nival at the Community House last Thursday night. The king and queen of the high school were elected by votes. The king was David Edmonds and the queen was Elsie Reynolds. Both are popular students of the school. Just before the carnival a pic ture on scouting was shown for the benefit of the McCormick Troop 505 of Boy Scouts. Mr. J. R. Newbery, area executive from Augusta, awarded tenderfoot badges and registration cards to the tenderfoots. The scouts who received the badges and cards were: Fred Buzhardt, Graydon Dukes, Jamie Sanders, Fred Mor gan, Maurice White, Jr., Thad- deus Persons, Jr., J. R. Hadsock. Sonny Caudle, Rudolph Strom, Alex Hanvey, Edward Campbell and Johnny McCracken. ) A western picture was shown later for the benefit of the Beta Club by Mr. Newbery. Self, and Miss Mildred Hipp entertained in honor of Mrs. Joe Wood, of Parks ville, the former Miss Beth Self, with a miscellaneous shower, Tues day, March 5, at the home of Mrs. Williams. On arriving, the guests were presented with little wedding bells as favors. Daffodils and jonquils were attractively arranged about the rooms where tables were placed for bingo. A delicious >alad course was served. The many beautiful gifts were then brought in packed in a large basket. Those enjoying this delightful occasion were Mrs. W. T. Self, mother of the bride, the friends and classmates of Mrs. Wood, and the teachers in the Washington Consolidated school v/here Mrs. Wood was a student at the time of her marriage. Detroit, Mich., March 7.—A 65 per cent gain in new car and truck sales during the last nine days of February, as compared with the corresponding period in February, 1939, enabled Chevrolet dealers to finish the month with the highest February total of all time, 1929 a- lone excepted, it was announced at the company’s headquarters here today> New car sales for the month totalled 74,932. During the last nine days of February, 23,323 cars and trucks were sold, as compared with 17,137 in the . same period last year Volume for the final period of the short month just ended was sub stantially more than half that for the whole month of February. 1939, when 50,788 units were sold. Significant, as an index of Spring business, is the fact that even in the face of this sharp up turn in new unit sales, Chevrolet dealers reduced their field stocks of used cars during the last nine days of February. A rise in used car stocks normally accompanies an increase in new car sales. Re versing this trend, however, Chev rolet dealers lowered their stocks nearly 1,000 units in spite of the new car gains. Sales of used cars totalled 60,050 in the last nine- days, bringing the months aggre gate to 146,605, highest February used car figure in the company’s history with the exception of 1936.
