Madeleine Avietenaite holds this distinguished office. She is especially interested in the United States because three generations of her ancestors lived here. When Lithuania became an in dependent nation twenty years ago, Miss Avietenaite returned to her native country and became private secretary to the Minister cf Foreign Affairs. The first parliament under this new regime was opened by a woman who is now 76. There were seven other women in this governmental body. • * * * A career mother who admits that it may be a little unusual at the age of 22 to have two boys, care for them and earn a medical degree in five years is Dr. Sarah H. Maiden. She is a member of this year’s graduating class at the University of Tennessee, and has been living in Memphis. * * ■* The working woman’s budget in Utah averages $17.77 a week, while for New York it is $22.93, and in between are Colorado with $18.77, Arizona with $19.85 and Pennsyl vania with $21.05. She is honorary chair man of a group which has put forward the American Mothers’ Declaration.
