McCORMICK MESSENGER, McCORMICK, SOUTH CAROLINA’ Thursday, June 15, 193^ Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Alexander, son and daughter, Joe and Gladys, of Reidsville, Ga., spent Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Wall. Mr. and Mrs. Zeke Widincamp spent the week end with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Wall. Mrs. Widincamp is spending a week before going to Goodwater, Ala., where they will make their home. Mrs. P. C. Dorn has returned home after a visit with her daughter, Mrs. C. M. Kuykendal, and Mr. Kuykendal, of Rock Hill. While away Mrs. Dorn toured the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Mrs. James E. Talbert and baby are visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Cheatham of Columbia were visitors here a short while Friday afternoon. Mrs. Horace Spires and Miss Keren Spires of Lincolnton, Ga., were visitors here Tuesday. Mrs. Minie Britt of Smithfield, Va., is visiting relatives in and near town. Mrs. W. G. Huguley, Mrs. C. C. Morgan, Mrs. C. H. Huguley and two sons, Claude, Jr., and Bobby Lowe, spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Rankin in Anderson. Mrs. Cecil C. Sisk of Newport, Tenn., has returned home after a week’s visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Dowtin. Thaddeus Persons, Jr., had the misfortune to fall while riding his bicycle Monday afternoon and break both bones in his right arm. He was rushed to the Greenwood Hospital for treatment and was able to return home Tuesday evening. Miss Nell Dowtin is attending summer school at Duke University, Durham, N. C. Mr. David Kennedy of Asheboro, N. C., spent yesterday here with his sister, Mrs. J. E. Britt. Mr. Jim Murray of Washington, D. C., is spending a few days here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Murray. Entertain For Mrs. J. M. Gannt On Thursday afternoon of last week Mrs. F. A. Cosey and Mrs. C. H. Workman entertained in a most delightful way at the former’s home in honor of Mrs. John Mitch ell Gannt, a recent bride. Tables were arranged for Chi nese checkers and when the game was over Mrs. D. C. Talbert and Mrs. Gannt tied in high score honors. Mrs. Gannt was the win ner* and along with this prize Little Misses Mary Ann Cosey and Sara Wi^l Talbert presented to the honoree a basket of lovely gifts. A color scheme of green and white was tastefully carried out in flowers, tallies and delicious re freshments consisting of an ice course and mints. Mrs. Gannt was again honored on Friday afternoon when Mrs. T. R. McAbee entertained members of her bridge club and a number of other friends. Following the game Mrs. Gannt was' presented lovely bon-bon dishes to match her crystal. IXI Gates-Riley The marriage of Miss Lillian Gates, of the John De la Howe State school and Columbia, to Harry Riley of Baltimore, Md., was solemnized Monday evening, June 4, at 7:30 o’clock in the Mc- Kissick Memorial church on the campus with the Rev. E. F. Gettys, superintendent, officiating. Misses Margaret Welsh, Lillie Hiott, Kathleen Doster, Lois Raust, Isabelle Turner, Clara Moody, Georgia Orsborne, Ruby Crowley, classmates of the bride, served as bridesmaids. Preceding the ceremony a pro gram of nuptial music was ren dered by Miss Carrie Waters, pianist, Mrs. Lloyd Hendrix, vio linist, and Miss Floride Kay, vocalist. Immediately after the ceremony the bride and groom left in their car for Baltimore where they will make their home. McCormick Trounces De la Howe 16-4 Behind the effective eight-hP, pitching of D. Bradley the McCor mick Junior Tigers easily defeated De la Howe 16-4 Saturday after noon. The Tigers blasted three enemy hurlers for 9 solid blows a- long with 10 walks and 7 errors.
