Friends here of Mrs. , Curdts, who was formerly Miss (Winnie Thurmond, will be glad to know that she has satisfactorily Mrs. Maggie McDonald has re turned home after being in the Greenwood hospital a week and continues to improve satisfactorily. Mr. Grady B. Smith, McCormick merchant, who was injured last week while en route to Augusta, is recuperating at his home here. Mr. Smith sustained a broken arm and other injuries when the truck in which he was riding turned over trying to avoid striking another car. The glare of lights of an ap proaching car was resppnsible for the wreck. M. J. Jester, driver of the Smith truck, was badly bruised and both men were treated at the University hospital, Augusta. C. Wilbur Brockwell officiating. S. J. Chiles Celebrates Birthday Miss Emily Chiles entertained a number of her father’s friends at dinner recently in honor of his 64th birthday. All the table ap pointments were symbolic of the occasion and an attractive color scheme was carried out in the menu as well as the flowers, place cards and candles. The centerpiece was a basket of pink sweet peas and Ragged Robin flanked by lighted tapers in silver holders. The place cards featured the same basket of blue and pink flowers.’f Burning tapers throughout the dining room furnished the only light and added festivity to the occasion. Eight of Mr. Chiles’ friends, to gether with his sons, were present on this occasion. Miss Chiles was assisted in en tertaining by her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Barney Chiles and Mrs. S. D. Chiles. S. B. Campbell, Jr., Honored With Surprise Party s. B. Campbell, Jr., was honored on Friday afternoon, May 10, with a surprise birthday party at the home of Mrs. E. F. LaGrone, given by his mother, Mrs. S. B. Campbell. S. B. was completely surprised at being the guest of honor at a party on his sixth birthday. Twenty- six of his little friends were present. The home was beautifully deco rated with pink roses and lark spur. The dining room was a mass of pink and white roses. S. B. invited his little friends into the dining room where he was greeted by Carolyn, Geraldine and Virginia Parkman as they sang “Happy Birthday to You.” A high chair, decorated in pink and white, was placed at the head of the table for S. B. Each little guest was given i a pink cap which they wore at the table. In the center of the table was the cake with its decorations of pink, and the words “Happy Birthday” across the top. The children found their places at the table, which was lighted by candles, by pink place cards. Delicious pink ice cream and crackers were served by Misses Lois and Thelma LaGrone and Florene Pardue. Throughout the afternoon the children romped and played in the large grove.
