WHEREAS, the office of Tax Col lector for McCormick County, un der the provisions of Act No. 63 of the Acts of 1931, is an appointive office; and WHEREAS, it is ^gainst public policy to require a person seeking the office of Tax Collector to en gage in a political campaign for the nomination to such office, NOW, THEREFORE, SECTION 1: BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of the State of Sotith Carolina: That after the approval of this Act any person seekipg the office of Tax Collector in McCormick County who qualifies and enters a political campaign for the: nomination to such office through a party primary election is hereby declared to be ineligible for appointment to such position for a period of two years after his en- tjy into such party primary, j SECTION 2: All Acts or parts of Acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed. j SECTIONS: This Act shall take .effect immediately upon its ap proval by the Governor. C. •White and Mr.:*!** Mrs. J. B. Jen nings were the guests Sf dKr. anf Mrs. W. T. Brown Dies Suddenlv Mrs. Minnie Alice Bodie Brown, wife of W. T. Brown, died at their home at Hephzibah, Ga., last Friday night from a heart attack. She had been in her usual health and her death came as a great shock to her family and friends. Mrs. Brown was a native of the Parksville. community and had lived all her life in that section un til the first of this year when she and her husband moved to Hephzi bah. She was a consistent mem ber of the Methodist Church. She was 64 yqars of age. Besides her husband, Mrs. Brown is survived by two sons, W. L. Brown of McCormick, and J. M. Brown of Parksville; six daughters, Mrs, H. E- Quarles of Edgefield, Mrs. M. U. White, Mrs. D. C. Jen nings and Mrs, C. W. Robertson of Parksville, and Mrs. A; B. Mallet and Miss Alice Brown of Hephzi bah, Ga., 28 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral services were con ducted at the Parksville Baptist Church Sunday morning at 11 o’clock by the Rev. O. L. Orr and the Rev. Wilbur Brockwell, and in terment made in the churchyard cemetery. G. P. McCain, funeral director, in charge. White Town H. D. Club Meets The monthly meeting of the White Town Home Demonstration Club was held in the home of Mrs. L. W. Ridlehoover. The meeting was called to order by the president with the devotional exercises. An article was read by Mrs. H. M. Free land on how to keep down the pesky fly. Mrs. Stallworth gave a most de lightful and helpful demonstration on “Color in Dress.” When pre paring your wardrobe' there are several things to take into con sideration: (1) Color of the cos tume. Get a color that is becom ing to your face or figure. (2) Tex ture. A soft texture is not as be coming to a $lim ^person as it is to a stout one. Many more useful points were brought out and dis cussed. Mrs. Stallworth also show ed some beautiful pieces of chil dren’s clothing which were very useful to the mothers who cut pat terns from some of them. A contest was enjoyed, also other games. The hostess served delicious iced lemonade and chocolate cake. 1 The next meeting will be held in the home of Mrs. Hubert White. Reporter. second. The winner of first place scored 99.9 points, with second iplace Scoring 97.5. •. , • ‘t v Other bide ribbon winners were Mary Loti Williams, 97.8; Mary Bue Coleman, 97^; Mary Ellen Ed munds, 97.0; Gladys Reams, 96.9; Valerie White, 96.7, and Fences Robinson, 96.2. The other scores ran high, all scoring between f . 91 and $5. The contest was held in the office, of Dr. Workman, with Dr. Tuten and Dr. Workman conducting the physical examinations, assisted by Miss Lillie Miller and Mrs. Forrest Marsh. Preliminary club contests were held in the county and the contestants were chosen from these. Girls fifteen years and old er were chosen. Lorene Drennaii will represent McCormick County in the State Contest at Winthrop College in July. The group of girls taking the ex aminations rated unusually high. Score sheets from Winthrop College were used and very careful rating was given to each. Mrs. Stallworth, home agent, and the physicians and nurses were very much pleased with the high records made by the McCormick County girls. Those entering the contest were, Lorene Drennan, Lillian Tuten, Mildred Blackwell, Eliza Bussey, Catherine Scruggs, Iris Jaynes, Frances Robinson, Margie Bussey, Connie Brown, Mary Fuller, Earle Parks, Evelyn Winn, Valerie White, Phrona Lee Cheatham, Gladys Reams, Annette Flinn, Mary Sue Cpleman, Mary Frances Talbert, Mary Ellen Edmunds and Mary Lou Williams. .
