MX CARMEL NEWS Last week we failed to get our news items'* mailed in Tuesday af ternoon, but the other week, our letter was mailed and left this of fice. Judge L. O. Bell, Mr. Paul Rob inson, Mr. T. A. Dowtin and others were Mt. Carmel visitors recently. Mr.'and Mrs. W. T. Mauldin and baby of Latimer spent the week end with Mrs. G. S. Mauldin. Rev. L. Tv Pressly baptized little William just before the service on Sabbath mornine. ' Mis. Feaster Mauldin and little son have been spending some uiiio in Georgia with her mother. They returned home .recently. Mrs. Alex Murray and daughters. Misses Mattie, Pattey and Margaret Murray, and a friend, also David Murray of Anderson, spent a few hours with Mr. James F. Suther land last Saturday afternoon. Mr. Sutherland accompanied them home. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Black and family have returned to their home in Beaufort. They stopped in Greenwood enroute and Misses Gladys Scott and Carolyn Tarrant accompanied them home for an extended visit. The announcement has been re ceived in Mt. Carmel of the birth of a little son to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frierson of Atlanta. Both mother and baby are doing well. Mrs. Frierson is pleasantlv remem bered in the county as Miss Mild red Boyd. Mr. Hollis Connor is slowly im proving, but has to be very quiet. His many friends hope he will sO&Tbe quite we® again. v C Mr. Tarrant Scott spent the past week In Greenwood visiting Mar ion Tarrant. He returned home Sabbath afternoon. Mr. J. C. BlowdCn of Manning and Miss Reba Wells arrived in Mt. Carmel Saturday afternoon. Miss Wells has been in Manning about six weeks nursing her nephew. James Plowden, through a recent illness. We are glad to say he is about well again. Miss Wells will spend this week in Mt. Carmel, re turning to Anderson Friday. Mr. Plowden returned to Manning Sab bath. Mrs. Jennings .Dorn and her attractive daughter. Miss Mabel Dcm, visited Mrs. Carrie Connor and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Horton awhile Tuesday afternoon. Quite a number of the young folks enjoyed the dance near Edge- field one evening recently^ Capt. and Mrs. William Sharpe and son of Clemson College visited Mt. Carmel one day last week. Billy remained with Mrs. Cade for an extended visit. Rev. W. C. Kerr of Abbeville as sisted Rev. Leon T. Pressly in a series of meetings beginning last Friday morning at 11 o’clock and dosing with the evening service Sabbath. Rev. Mr. Kerr is quite an excellent speaker and he gave us some splendid thoughts. We are glad to say there was good attend ance and great interest. We feel sure veryone enjoyed and was helped and inspired by the won derful truths and forceful sermons by Mr. Kerr. x We all hope he will visit us« £?ain in the neai* future. At the morning •service. Sabbath, th^ Lord’s supper was administered and it was pleasing to see so many communicants. We were glad in deed to welcome so many visitors. Mr. Wv D. Owing to circumstances over i which the writer had no control, my news letter from Willington for last week’s issue of the Messenger was not finished' on time for pub lication, however, by request, will send it for this week’s issue and will trust to the generosity of my friends for its perusal. ‘Mar.’ -X Death Claims Miss Fooshe Manv McCormick friends will be Grieved to learn of the death of Miss Mary Estelle Fooshe of Green wood at 2 o’clock Sunday morning at the home of her friend. Mrs. E. A. Eason, at Abbeville following a stroke of apoplexy several hours earlier. Miss Fooshe had been on a visit to Abbeville for some days ! and suffered the attack when she I was returning there Saturday 1 night. The funeral services were con ducted at 9:30 o’clock Tuesday morning at the home on Sanders street by Dr. H. A. Bagby, her i former pastor, and interment in i Edgewood Cemetery with the fol lowing serving as pall-bcarers: Ab ney Coleman, Henry McKinney, Ben T. McDowell, Adger Long, D. Adams, Clarence Beaudrot, J. C. Sizemore and Sam Reynolds. ! Miss Fooshe was a daughter of 'the late Thomas K. and Sarah Clem Fooshe and was 47 years of age. She had a host of friends who are grieved over her sudden death and who sympathize with her brothers and sisters in their bereavement. She was connected with the Oregon Millinery Parlor of Greenwood for a number of years and was a popular saleslady. , Miss Fooshe is survived by three sisters, Mrs. L. Z. Gunter, of Green wood; Mrs. C. E. Dixon, of Winns- bqro, and Mrs. C. W. Cooper, of Orlando, Fla., and three brothers, John T.- Fooshe. P. G. Fooshe and C. H. Fooshe, all of McCormick.
