I- Jndge Buchanan K"gw Nothing of Matter of Calling Off The Newberr Court, Until Requested to do so by the Bar. e In the Newberry correspondence I The State, in regard to the calling of the Common Pleas Court by t Newberry Bar, appeared the stateme that "Judge Buchanan, who was pi siding, -does not now reside in the e euit for which- he was elected," eti and "he, knowing this, and after cc sulting with the lawyers here thoug best to adjourn the Court, as questio might arise in the future which wou make the business transacted null ai void." This, if true, .would possih place Judge Buchanan in a false pos tion. The fact is, at the time t meeting of the Bar Association wi held, Judge Buchanan was not in Nev berry. Col. 0. L. Schumpert, Chai man of the Newberry Bar Associatioi when seen by a representative of T1 Herald and News, gave out the follov ing statement in'regard to the matte "It seems that the information in rf gard to the failure to hold a term < Court during the present week at Nev berry, which formed a basis of wha appeared in the correspondence of tb State, was inaccurate. "Judge Buchanan was not at lieN berry, had -no knowledge of the meel ing of the Bar, nor of its requests fc him to adjourn the Court, nor had h any consultation with any*of its mer bers, until the request was telegraphe to him. at Winnsboro. "Upon meeting to arrange the-busi ness of the Court for this week, th Bar found that very much of its de layed business had been transacte during a two weeks' special term o Court lately presided over by Specia Judge Izlar. Some of the members o: the Bar found that they would be com pelled to be absent from Newberry dur ing the present week and had to ask g continuance of their cases. This lefi so little business to be transacted thal it would not justify the expense of a term of Court. They therefore re. quested its adjournment." Blalock he bankrupt, and of J. S. Blalock, bank he rupt, at Goldville, was to have beei nt old yesterday, by W. R. Ritchie, o: e Laurens, Trustee. The order of th( Court, however, was disobeyed, th( trustee failed to show up at the ap n- pointed time, and the property remaim unsold. a Tuesday afternoon, the day before Id the time oppointed for the sale, Frank P. McGowan, of .the Laurens Bar, rep .I resenting the trustee, Mr. Ritchie, ap peared before Mr. Welch asking for k stay of the order of sale. The request was refused by Mr. Welch. Yesterday Mr. Welch went up to Goldville, ex pecting, of course, that the sale would be made. About two hundred persons were present. As stated above, they were disappointed.
