THE PACING RECORD Of Star Pointer EZzeUy Equaled by Di Patch. Readville, Mass., Sept. 23.-Da Pat?h, the famous pacer, went again the wo-ld's record of 1.594, made t Star Pointer on the Readville trac five years ago, this afternoon, and i a truly magnificent performan< equalled the rpoord. Weather coi dition were perfect. Dan Patch was brought out f< a. warming up mile with a runner i pac naker. Without an effort I went the distance in 2.13. Half a hour later the handsome black pace came out for his trial against time. As in the other mile, a runner wi sent out ahead. No time was losti scouring, and Myron Mclienry noi ded the first time down for the wirn and a hundred watches caught ti start. The pacer had his stride froi the yord, and there was not a ski for the whole mile, his legs movin with perfect regularity. It was n< until the third quarter that every o0 felt convinced that the record was i danger. Up the stretch came tt pacer, his flashing under the wire worthy mate of Star Pointer, his tirn being 1.594. MeHenry was wide] cheered and the crowd rushed to tU rails to see the horse led away. Dan Patch's time by quarters wi 304; 59t; 1.294; 1.594. The quarters; 304; 29k, 29k; 3( According to Your Meanness. Look for Four Snows. [Rock Hill Journal.] Police Officer Jenkins in' additio to being one of the city's most eft eient and clever guardians of th peace, can also tell you some thing about the weather. He says An gust fogs are always indicative o winter snows; during the past mont. he noted four heav) fogs, and if th, rule holds good he says you ma; look for four heavy snows the com i,g winter. Suicides for 1901 [Spartanburg Journal.] Somebody has been getting to n gether the number of suicides in d American and other cities last year. San Francisco leads off with the largest ratio, 39.1 per 100,000 of population. Next comes another Pacife coast city, Los Angeles; with a ratio of 29.8. The reader has nat urally been looking for Chicago, and n that city does, in fact, come next, gt with a ratio of 24, followed by the y neighboring city of . Milwaukee, k whose ratio is 22:2. New Orleans ,n was the scene of the self destruction se of 218 persons per 100,0000 of pbp i- ulation, and Cincinnati followed close, with 21.2. New Haven is next, >r with 20.8, and then comes the ' borough of Manhattan,- with 20, e though Greater Nev York as a n -whole is well down the list, with a 'r ratio of only 13.6. This is less than. Rochester, Indianapolis, Philadel 's phia, Pittsburg, Baltimore, Boston, n Detroit, Omaha and Louisville, be I *ides all of those specificailiy enu , merated. above.
