California.
Stockton, Cal., April 3.-Robert
E. Ford, who is wanted at Florence,
S. C., has been arrested here by De
tective Walker on a charge of mak
ing away with some goods which did
not belong to him. When the pris
onor was searched it was found that
he was wanted on a more serious
charge. He is accused of a big forg
cry and the authorities of South Car
olina have been sending out descrip
tions and making strong efforts to
captr,ro hiu. Ford is wanted at
Florence on charges of forgery and
bigany. He was a tobacco grower.
In 1897, it is alleged, he forged a
small check on a ware house man.
He gave bond for trial and disap
peared. He married the daughter
of Bryant flall, a prominent citizen
of Florence, who claims to have dis
covered that Ford had been married
before. The sheriff of Florence
County is in communication with' the
California authorities.

The Vorntry Paper
Amid the pile of papers
Thut swatup my desk each day
And drive me weak with clipping
And fling stufY away,
Coires once a week--onI Thursday
'T'he quaint"old fou. -page sheet
That's printed up in ieIham,
A drowsy county seat.
You s'ee, 'twas up in Pelham
That, first I saw the light,
And-well my heart grows softer
-And I feel my eyes shine bright,;
Right reverent, my touch is,
It sprqads the columns wide,
The locals what I'm seeking
The patent inside.
Ah, here it is: "The ('ounty,"
And "Jottings," ''"Local News"
You learn who's traded horses
And who have rented pews;
It tells about the schoolhouse
Where we used to sit and dream,
A-watching dust specks (lancing
In the sunlight's shifty beam.
The sturdy names of boyhood
Come tumbling through our thought,
Of 'l'omi and Brick and 'atsty
How we loved and how we fought!
The friends when years grow graver,
Called now beyond our ken,
In the type-lines of the paper
They live and speak again.
Oh, toilers In ,life's workshops,
Are not those dream mists swe. ,
Which memory casts about us
When past and present meet?
And so, I love that paper
lFrom the village in tie hills
For the old life that it, awakens,
For the weariness it,stills. '
