Mrs.. M. C. Morris, wife of Mr. M. C. Morris, died at her home at Prosperity on Saturday afternoon in the 33rd year 'f her age. She leaves a husband and one child with a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn her death. She was a consistent member of the Baptist church and was loved by all who knew her.'" The Christmas' tree at St. Philips proved a success it was laden with many nice presents. a The Christmas holidays was enjoyed by all in this community. The people are busy at work begin ing a new year. We can bear the axes in varions directions clearing the forest. Some of the people are not through gathering their cotton crop, this has not been known for years. Dr. Dickert left last Sunday for Charleston where he will finish his medical course. Mr. David Kih'ler, of Texas, is now at bome visiting his parent and frien4ds. There have been more movings this year than we have seen for a long time. The young folks of our community are still having a jolly old time as we can hear of adance every few days. We have not heard from Josh Trump in a long time he must be in the state of sleep again and if he is I hope that 1902 will wake him up. Feathertop. Jan. 10, 1902. Exce1lor Itema. We have had some real cold weather again but after all our winters here are rather mild. SOur school has been closed this week owing to the illness of our teacher, Prof. R. C. Counts. Hope he will soon be able to attend to his duty in the school room again. Mrs. K. Baker and children, of Greenwood, have been on a visit to Mr. A. A. Nate's family here. -Some of our farmers say the grain has been frozen out pretty badly. We hope, however, the grain has not been injured as badly as thought. We believe late so wing of oats are all killed. Some of the farmers say they will sow over again. Mrs. J. D. Stone is spending a few days with her father's family. Mr. Clinton Shealy and wife and Mr. Willie Shealy and wife, of Monticello section, visieid in this community Sat urday and Sunday. Rev. W. W. McMorries preached a good sermon here Sunday afternoon from the text: "Walk as the children of light." The sermon was listened to with much interest. A new bridge with side railing has Sbeen recently put at the calamus pon.d. The bridges ought to be kept in good -condffon if the roads don't get worked - I when they need it. The roads will be worked as soon as the weather will permit. Carrie Lou, little daughter of Mr. Sand Mrs. E. M. Cook died at their t home in this section on Sunday after noon, Jan. 5, 1902, after an illness of 1 about two weeks. The burial service V was conducted on Monday afternoon i by Rev. W. W. McMorri< s and the re mains were laid to rest in the Prosper e ity cemetery to await the morning of -the resurre'ction. Wicker Brothers at Reuben Burned Out Loss Estimated at $4,000. Sunday night Wicker Bros., at Reuben, were burned out. Supposed to have been the work of an incendiary. Two buildings were burned and stock of Goods. They did considerable busi ness and had on ]ad a large stock of mer chandise. The members of the firm are J. P. arid H. M. Wicker, and they place the lowest estimate of their loss at $4,ooo, with no insurance except what they have in the Farmers Mutual.
