November 25.-Theo entire capital stock of the Dispatch Company, putblishors of the ltici mond Dispatch, was sold to day to Loland Rankin and associatOs. lhe company was at once reorganized by the election of Loland tankin, V. D. Ohestorman and 0. Watson Jones, of Richmond; Charles I. Grasty, of the Baltimore News, and George Tra bue, of the Nashville Aiuerican, as directors, and Loland Rankin, presi (lent and publisher, and W. F. Ches terman and 0. Watson Jones, editors The Farmer and the Nownpapoi. [El Campo News.] An ignorant man caros nothing for a newspaper and he dues not see that it is his duty to supply his wife and children with his local paper. Yet every intelligent and mentally well balanced citizen takes some local paper. You can visit about in the country and pick out the intelligent farmers by the fact that they read their home paper. If an ignorant or careless farmer reads at all they generally select the publication furtherest from home and which is the least value to them. Why l'iatt Cwn Never unto New York. [Williamn Allen White in McCluro.] For some reason the Republicans of New York State regard Platt as a Heaven sent leader to reform and redeem the wicked city of Now York. They do not see that Platt can never rule New York. Now York is essen tially feudal, and the king imust be of the native blood. Platt is a for eigner; he may make an occasional raid into the city and lot hrone the king; he may even set up a tempo rary protectorate or a fleeing dy. nasty; but he and all his kith and kin will over be pretenders with the populace. It will rise and drive them out at the first crisis. Platt knows no more about New York city than he knows of Lahore, and he can never learn it. For the spirit of feudal charity and rough kindness to its own people, which is the real spirit of Tammany with all its cor ruption, is the spirit of New v , and a cold-blooded, mousey, little -an who walks cautiou wise across his own bedroo will never rule New York city. Reflections of a~ naechelor. [New York Press.]. Generally the new woman is an old dame. The only thing a girl minds about being engaged several times is that it gives her a reputation of getting old. When a man is known to be so good that lie doesn't need wvatching, a woman doesn't take a second look at him. When 'a woman knows her hus band deserves to be punished, she thinks any one who tries to do it ex cept herself deserves a worse punish ment. When a married wonman in a play gets tangled up in a scandal all the wives in the audience wait patiently for the last act when she explains it all away; but whe,n it's a man they know he's guilty before the first slow music stops. What Makes a Man. Not numerous years nor lengthened life. Nor pretty children and a wife; Nor pius and chains and fancy rings, Nor any such like trumpery things, Nor pIpes, cigars or bottled wine; Nor liberty with kings to (ine; Nor coat, nor boot, noer yet a hat, Nor tiaster, reverai.d air, iior 'squire, With titles that the memory tire; Nor ancestry tracked back to Will WVho went fromi Normandy to kill; Nor judge a robe nor masyor's miace, Nor crown that decks the royal race These, all united, never can Enlarge the soul to make the man. A truthful soul, a loving tuind, Full of affection for its kinmd; A helper of the hunman race, A soul of beauty and of grace; A spirit firm, erect and free, That never basely bends the knmee; That will not bear a feather's weight Of slavery's chain for smuall or great; That firmly speaks of God1 w ithin, And never umakes a league with sinm; That snaps the fetters despots miake, That loves the truth for its ownm sake; 'That worships God anid only God, That trembles at no tyrant's noed And thus cani smile ini curse and ban That is the sonl that makes the makes. -Unknow a master's Sales.
