Morse will deliver a lecture tomorrow at 1.30 o'clock at the Court House in tbe interest of the South Carolina Inter-State and West Indian Exposition. Our people should turn out and do what they can to aid in making the Newberry exhibit one ol the best that will be at the exposition. It will be a great advertisement and as excellent place to show the resourcem of the county. It will be a good idea to attend the meeting and form some *plan for a systematic organization arnd give our people some idea of' the best way in which to go about getting up u creditable exchibit. The transportation will be paid on all exhibits both going and returning from the exposition. IRkiard, who has just fin ished up on the lineotype machine in the St,ate office in Columbia, came up Wednesday to spend a few days in the city and with his father's family in the Long Lane community. Dr. S. T. Hallman returned on Tues day from Savannah, Ga., where he has been in the interest of the Lutheran Visitor. He was the guest of Rev. M* $'. Epting and Dr. W. 0. Schaeffer during his sojourn in Savannah. Mr. L. I. Epting moved back to his farm near St. Paul's Wednesday of this week. We regret to see him leave Newberry, but wish him much success and hope to see him often in our city. There should be a large crowd at the lecture in the court house to morrow afternoon and get some movement on foot~ whereby the Newberry County ex hibit would be the best at the Exposi tion to be held in Charleston next year. State vs. Aaron Tribble-violatiou of dispensary law-new trial The case of the State vs Alonzo J. Cook and James B Bradley-assault and battery and carrying concealed weapons is being tried this morning as we go to press. Yesterday morning at half past ten o'clock the grand jury made their final presentmentand were discharged. They were commended very highly by Jude Klugh for the eficient manner In which they discharged th .:r duty. PRESENTMENT OF GRAND JURY. To His Honor, J. C. Klugh, Presid ing Judge: The Grand Jury respect fully present that they have acted upon all bills handed to them by the Solicd tor, and have returned them into court. We have examined the jail and court, house and find them in good condition, witi- the exception of a few repairs needed at the jail. We find the floor needs afew new plank, and that the roof needs repairing; the inside walls need whitewashing. We recommend that the'Supervisor have the needed repairs done. We also recommend that a suitable bath tub be put in for the use of the prisoners. We find that the jail yard is badly washed from the leakage from the jail gutter and box. lng. We recommenad that they be filled up. We recommend that the Southern Railway be made to build a culvert and drairL the pond caused by the em bankment of said road at what is known as-the cut-off, three miles from Saluda Old Town. The said pond is detri mental to the health of the community We had a surveyor to make an ex amination, and be reports three feet four inches fall, which is enough to drain said pond. The Werts bridge over Litt,le river has been reported in very bad candi tion. We recommend that the Super visor be instructed to repair same at once. A committee of three members of the grand jury has beetn appointed to examine the books of the different county omeers and make^ a report to the grand jury at the July term of ourt. A like committee has be' n ap pointed to look after Beaver Dam creek in No. 6 Township, which has been called to, our attention as being in a very bad conditon. These committees were appointed upon~ the presumption that they would be paid the usual per diem and mileage for their services We find that all the public roads need work, and we recommend that the Supervisor have them put, in a good consdition as soonf as possible 'We have examined the bonids of the different, county cmeers, and find them good and strong. We have visited the County Home. We find the inmates well cared for and in a good cotndition.
