Mr. R. I1. Wolch of Nowborry is in tho race and is here looking after his in torests. Two weeks of the logislativo Me4 sion are gone and practically nothing has boon done. There is no proba bility of the sossion being shorter than forty days and no danger that it will be longer for that is the limit for which pay can h)o drawn anid statesmen in those practical days do not wvork without pay. I notice that some of the papers attribute Gov. McSweeney wvith rec commending an appropriation of $200,000 for the public schools in his annual message. It is evident thatt they nevor road it for I amn suro none of thoem would milsropr1esent the posi tioni of tIhe Governor intentionally. He made no such recommendation as5 everyone who has road the mets sage must know. Hie did urge the importance of supplomonting the school fund by special taxation ini local school districts and in this way only can tile common schools in the country districts be improved. The following is takeu from the Darlington News: The Governor's Message was sent out and published by The Newborry Herald and News before it was de livered by the Governor. Is thmat newspaper enterprise or oflicial fav oritism-Groenville News. The editor of The Newborry Her aid and News and the Governor's private secretary being one and the same individual the Dairlington New would say that it was official favorit ism. The Newberry IIerald anti News is at perfect liberty however, to publish the Governor's Message at 'any time the Governor and its ed: tor see fit so far as the Darlington News is concerned. Tis newspaper begs to be relieved from the job of publishing it at all. I desire to publish this simply to show to the Greenville News the ef. feet of making a statement which contains an insinuation that had no foundation in fact. So far as I have seen the News ignored the reply I anade to the false insinuation and is willing by such methods to do an other injury. The statement made by the Gt-eenville News was untrue as I pointed outssome time ago and the Darlington News could have known it was untrue if it had cared to know it. There was no "official favoritism" in it. What either one of these papers expects to gain by such tactics I do not know and I care less. This ls not the first time that tho Darlington News has undor talkn to ho timart and I iti wot pri4ed it its effort inl this camo but I amil H0on0what murprisid ait tho Orcon villo News.
