Oh! that our girls would qtuit this l)erticious habit using by-words and slang. 1 am sure if thtey kitew the origin of many words they use they' would stand aghast, and would ne'ver allow such words to pass their lips agauiin. Most girls, I t hink I may say all girls, are ignoranit of t he mleanling of the conioui every-clay slang words, that are constantly in uise', but let me tell you, luy dear girls, all of them have a hidden melianing, and your word.( are ofte mi)3)is on) strued, whe'n you have no idea that you have said an yt hung that a lady should not say. Whlen tile'girl I am telling y'ou about is called on to perform) any religious dIuty, she complies with alacrity, as if it was a pleasure for her te work for the Lord. She is sympathetic and helpful to those with whom she associates, is kinld and considerate, and is careful not to wound the feelings of others. I like the girl who is ever ready to discharge the duties in life that fall to her lot, wvho never says "I can't," but "'I will."' One wh'to has the moral stamina to stand by her convictions, who never "tattles," nor speaks evil of others. Here is a beautiful little poem that I have just memorized. It would be nice for our girls to learn it, and think ot it when they feel like saying any thing against another, "for so often doespaur uobridled totngie cut a gash iszsome ones heart that never ~ "eea guArd1on your words, my darling, eQr words ae wotidedRui thinigs, e aw9et Uke the bee'a fresh honaey 1~ kd I.'e 4htha etydhlestinga.
