Work was commenced yesterday on the widening of N.nce street, lead ing from the opera house to "Brook lyn." It is the intention of the city council to make this one of the prettiest streets in the city. It is now one of the most important streets in the city, leading as it does from the city to our beautiful surburban village, IIelena, then it is the only street leading to the city's water and light plant -and the one over which all the tre,vel from that portion of the city goes. The idea which the city fathers will endeavor to carry out is to open the street t') a iwidth of 40 feet, making it a broad and solid road. For the past several months there has been a faint fragrance of the orange blossom in the atmos phere in and around Newberry, and the suspicious moving about of *ilk, satin and laces has ilade the wise ones wonder what event of unusual interest was going to happen. The mystery was explained when on last Wednesday evening, the 22d inst., at half-past eight o'clock one of the-prettiest weddings that has ever been celebrated in our County took place at the beautiful and hospit!rble home of Dr. R. C. Carlisle, about eight miles from Newberry. About two hun dred relatives and friends gathered that evening to witness the marriage ceremony of Rev. Isaac N. Kennedy, of Molino, Tennes-ee, and Miss Nary Emma Carlisle, the only daughter of Dr. and Mrs. It. C. Carlisle. ''he cere mony was performed by Rev. 1E. B. Kennedy, of Bartow, Florida, a brother of the groom, assisted by Rev. J. B. Hood, of Newberry. Miss Lula Mose Iey, of Prosperity, S. C., was the bride's "Maid of Honor" and she did her part gracefully and well. The groom's "Best Man" was the [Hon. '1'. 1'. McDill, member of the General Assembly from York County. They will make their future home at Molino, Tenn., where Mr'. Kennedy has minis terial charge of a large congregation. Mr. Kennedy Is one of the most pr~omi nent of the young ministers of the A s sociate Reformed Presby teriian Ch ureh and has a bright future before him. The young bride will be missed by the old as well as the young, for with her charming manners and intellect,ual at tainments she had won for herself a host of friends and ad mirers.
