Ho has been absent for several days arranging to bring his family to Columbia and has not yet had oppor tunity to examine it or to take any action on it. They find that Col. You will of e'JcUrse publish in this issue the full report so that our people may see for themselves the nature of things. 'I'he committee had on it personal and political friends of Col. Rail road for the manner in which It han died the Nowberry people who attend ed the littlo Mountain uoiion. There were not ample accommnodations for the crowd who desired to go. The Columbia, Newberry & Laurens and President Childs have always beon so accommodating to the people of Newberry/that I felt sure there was some reasonable excuse or explanttionl somewhere. The crowd was larger than the ac commodation. There is no doubt of that. The accommodation was not what the people wanted, nor was it what Mr. Childs would have been de lighted to make it. I had a talk with Mr. Summerset of the road since I cane to Columbia about the matter. E'verybody knows that the road, as a public servant, de sires to please its patrons. That is reasonable, for if it were not for a higher motive, self interest would prompt it. Mr. Summerset tells me that when President Cromer filrst took ti,b i,attor up with the road President Childs told him he feared he would be unable to secure the coaches and he would rather not undertake it. That his road had no extra coaches and he was afraid he could not secure them from the other roads. When the time cetile the coaches coitldi not be secured from the A tlantic ('oast Line or the Southern. The coach from the train from Lau rens was pressed into ;ervlee and that gave only two simall passeigo' coaches for the crowd, hut they were all the road had that were available that morn ing. It was offered to ilake two trips, and if Ptt of those who were going had been w!iing to wait, the tccotmlodia tioni woul have been ample and satis factory, bit no one would ihe willing to wait, atnol e onsq(enititly the train wt-4 ov'er eir w edl. We are needing rain very badly. ('rops are beginning to go back again. Nt. Pilgrim and Johnstone nines crossed bats on Johnstone grounds on the first of this mopth. We learn that the game was a tie---22 to 22. We think that some kind hearted thief has broke our friend, Sam liikard, from going to the base ball ganes. Last Saturday, while he was playing among the .Johnstonites, some fellow came along and lifted his coat out of his buggy. We are in receipt of an invitation to attend the Wheat Grower's Convention at Greenwood, on the 15th of this montih, for which we return our special tibanks to the committee.
