I will not attempt to say which one of the participants was the hare or which the hedge-hog, nor will I tell you what the wager was, much better though than three artichokes and three onions. Some of our young people went off to a "social" not long since and, since then the dictionary has been their constant companion. I insist that another "social" be given so that they may come and show how much they have profited by this study. Most of our neighbors have planted wheat, some of the wheat is coming up and looks well. We have some go ahead up-to-date men around here who mean to make a living even though cotton sells at five cents. The sale at Mr. E. The weather has been beautiful the past two weeks, and the farmters in this section have finished sowing grain and are about ready for Christmas. Prof. R. C. Counts, who is teaching school in Saluda county, has been on a visit to his father's family. Mr. E. M. Cook is having some paint ng done on the outside of his dwelling. Mr. J. D. Stone is doing the work. The young folks enjoyed a dance at Prof. J. S. Wheeler's home on Friday night. Two of Mr. J. S. Werts' little sons have been confined to their room the past two weeks with a continued fever. Glad .to state they are now on the mend. Mrs. J. D.
