The Town Council has granted the same number of liquor licenses for the present year as follows : T. Q. Boozer at his present place and the Newberry Hotel bar lately occupied by J. R.Oreen, A. M. His horse was frightened at the repo -t of a gun while he was watching a party of hunters; throw'ng him from his buggy and breaking his leg. Mrs. S. H. The couple left next morn ing for Florida. It would seem from this that Mrs. Warring did not come for the postoilice. The railroad commissioners to-day examined and accepted 6,290 feet of the Columbia, Newberry and Laurens Railroad, being all of the line witnin the limits of this city and county, with 670 feet of the iron bridge across Broad River. Christmas in Newberry pas=el of quietly and pleasantly. No aiitlent= or mishaps of any consequence and so far as we know every one has had a pleasant week of it. On Christmas day service was held at the Lutheran church and a sernon was preached by the pastor. A Christmas service was held at the Lutheran church on Sunday night last by the Sunday school consisting -.f a recitation by Miss Sallie Wheeler, a short address by the pastor, e:celleit music led by Mrs. P. Robe:-tson. and Scripture reading in concert by the school. The attendance upon this ser vice was large and everything pa.-sed off pleasantly. On last Sunday afternoon a special Sunday school service was held inl the0 PresbyLerian church; the address to tLe school was delivered by Rev. )r. Cozhy. Seventeen beautiful hymiin lool,s were awarded to as many scholars for perfect recitat'ons in the catechis'mi. On Monday night a deiightful enter tainient and Christmas tree was had at the residence of -Mr. R. L. McCaugh rin for the school, when a nice presen t was given each member of the school. The W. C. T. U. bad a pleasant meeting on Tuesday afternoon, when Geo. B. C:onier, Esq.. delivered an address. Revs. C. P. Scoot, W. C. Sebacifer, J. S. Cozby and W. S. Wighmainar, were all nicely renembered during the week by the members of their respec tive churches with niany nice and sub stant ial things. Foot, Jr., has sold out and will in future, after a course in the U niversity of Virginia, devote his time and talents to the practice of the law. His old stand will be occupied by O. Klettner, who moved in yesterday. E. M. Evans, who has for a number of years been with 0. H. P. Fait, has withdrawn and William A. Fant takes an interest with his father, the style of the firm being O. H. P. Fant &- Son. Frank B. Mcintosh and Jas F. Todd have formed a copartnership under the firm name of McIntosh & Todd, and will conduct the grocery business at the corner lately occupied by W. A. Kinard. As noted last week, Wright & J. W. A. J. Bowers. The unity of the school has been preserved. Its wor~k has been both harmonious arnd prosperous. J. C. Boyd, of Prosper ity, spent Thursday in this commu nity .the guests of Mr. J. T. P. Crosson's family. Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Long, of John stoue comniunity paid a brief visit to this contnunity on last Tuesday and attended the Christmas tree at the Academy in the af ernoon. The Ch risl mas season passed off very quietly in this neighborbood, and the weather was all that could be desired. Some few entertainments given during the holitjays were enjoyed very much by the young folks of the cotnmu:ity. A large sized map has recently been placed in the Academy building. This will ce"tainly be a great advantage to teacher and pupils. Mr. James D. Kinard, after spending the holidays under the par'ental roof, returned to New berry College on Mon day. We are pleased to learn that the College is full of stqdents and in a fine wor kiur condition. Such an institu t ion is an honor to any town or city. \lr. J. E.
