Owing to the cold snap some few of our farmers are enjoying pudding and sausage. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Crosson have moved to Mr. Geo P. Gritins. Rev. M. M. Kinard, of Columbia, paid a brief visit to the parental roof last week. Mr. J. S. Werts and family will leave this week for their new home at Saluda. Mr. Johnnie Cromer, of Walton, spent Saturday night with relatives in this community. Monday being saleday at Newberry, a good many of our farmers put in their appearance at the city. The social gathering of young folks given at Mr. J. S. Werts' re.idence on Friday night was very much enjoyed by all present. Mr. J. Willie Singley and family will leave this week for their new home in Texas. The best wishes of their many friends here will aceonpany them to their far away home. Our school has a full attendance with an increasing numberof pupils. School observed Thanksgiving day. Very few of our farmers observed Thanksgiving day, however, the occasion should have been onserved and returned thanks for the blessings received. Prof L.A. Hawkins has been visit ing in this community in the interest of a singing class at the academy. We hope the professor will meet with su. - cess as to this matter, however, s:)me of our very best singers seein to be a little out. of tune at the present time. A good singing class would certainly be of great interest to our community. SIGMA. SANTA CLAUS HEARD FROM. Our calendars remindus of the early arrival of Chris. Loss about four hun dred bushels of corn. The fire was caused by a spark from an engine while ginning cotton. No insurance. A portion of the loss will be made good to Col. Maffett by the ginners. Mr. Eugene H. Longshore and Miss Maggie Spearman were married at the residence of the brides mother on Sun day the 1st instan t, at 11 o'clock, a. mi. Rev W. J. Langston was the officiatim g minister. And while speaking of marriages, one of our young men recently went to the house of his intended bride and all the guests present, and had forgotton to invite a minister to perform the cere mony. A friend was dispatched for a minister, and after a while the minister was brought in and the ceremony per formed. Mr. Fed Long, of No. 8, lost his pocket-book on the 28th of November. There was a considerable sum of money in it. The writer saw~ Mr. Long and one of the visitors to the late State Fair giving each other a hearty hand shake a few days ago. Mr. Edward Stillwell, (lied at the residence of his son, J. J. Stillwell, on November 22d, with apoplexy. Mr. Stilwell was an aged man. Mrs. Mary Dominick, wife of Mr. F. H. Donmnick. has been quite sick during the past week, but we are glad~ to say that she is gradually improving. During the wind of Thursday last, the monument of W\. D. Goggans, Adjutant 13th S. C. Regiment, was blowrnl-own; but there wvas very little damage done to it. It will be replaced in its proper position in a few days. Mr. James S. Spearman will be or dained a deacon of. Mt.
