The convention which meets in Seneca to-morrow is the offspring of the-oonvention held there on July 7th, to take into consideration the qutistion of nominating a Congress man for the 3rd Congressional l)is ttiot by the primary plan. The del egates to that convention from Alb beville were instructed by the con vention which elected them to sup. portthe primary plan. This they did, and by their earnest advocacy, with the assistance of the delegates from Oconee and Newberry succeed. ed In passing a resolution fixing a primary election provided the State Convention so amended the constitu, tion of the party as to permit it. The Seneca convention appointed a comt. mittee to present the matter to the State Convention. This they did and the State convention made the neessary change. We hear it said that it is possible that the convention which meets to-day will proceed to nominate a Congressman. We dc not think this can be true. Such s course would stultify us in the face of the Congressional District and of the State. It was we who inaugu. rated the movement, who carried it through with our friends from Oconee and Newberry against the opposicion oftie delegates from Anderson and Ptokens. Certainly we of Abheville cannot favor a cause which looks to the re. pudiation of our own action. We are committed to the primary plan of nomination. We consider that the present convention has but one duty to perform, and that is under the amendment to the constitution of the State adopted by the State conven. tion to fix the time and adopt rules for the government of the primary election. It is not probable that any one will attempt to gainsay the state, ment that the large majority of the people of the district are in favor o1 holding a primary election. If the convention desire then to follow the will of the people by all means let it fix the time and adopt the rules for i primary. Any other course will not be uatisfactory. No man, howevei popular or however acceptable, wil be well received, whose friends brink about a nomination by the preset convention. Speaking for the candidlate froni Abbeville. we know that he has nt objection whatever, to the primary and believe his friends will (10 whal they can to have the p)rimary, and carry out the will of the peCople o the Dlstrict.-Abbeville Messengera.
