LANFORD NEWS. * Lanford, Jan. 3r-We have put the "calendar of a now year on our walls. We have been privileged to enjoy the Past four seasons, both joys and sor rows we recall fullinoll. Now the cy cle of a new year looms ahead and we mutLst prepare to face the advantages aild disadvantages of 1921. So while were setting our house it order t'or .1921 we hope we all will resolve to (10 our1 best, to make it a pleasant year if we are 1privileged to live it through. Our school children nwere eager (111d anxIous to take up their studles Monday morning and to see their he loved teachers again after two Weeks holiday for Clh ristmas. Our little town has had a great maty guests for the Christmas holi days.- Among them are the following: .ir. and Mrs. Glhist, of Greenville visited Mr. G. J. Lanford and other relatives. Mrs. Dr. Bailey an(d clildren, of Clin-ton, Mrs. Louis Anilerson and 'Mrs. Dr. Vincent, Mrs. .J. W. lender son aid families of Iaurens visited Mrs. MaliIe Dru mmond. Mir. and Mirs. Jolni A. Payne, of Gireeinwood were guests of her family. Mrs. scllie Nelscon of Clintoni spent tle wedk with her : ler, Mrs. J. I. \\il liais. All the boys and girls that were off at schools and colleges, added much pleasuire and merriien t to all occa moins. At the residenlee of Ms.. W. John son she aid Mr-s. W. 1). DeShields, of lenderson ville, N. C., was buried at Spartanbuirg last Friday, the following attending the funeral from here: lr. .1. M. De Shields and fanily, .lr. and .\rs. .1. F. 'Waldrep, 'Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Wal drep and Mr. and Strs. J. I. Patterson. Mrs. DeShields had been very sick for some tine and her death war exipect ed. She has niny friends here, who were sorry to hear of her deati. A section of the sanitarium was oc cupied by enfeebled soldiers sent to the institution, which w-as des.ignated by a psychopathic hospital 1)y the United Sitates governmeint about six miiontlis ago. TIhere were 68 soldier patIents at the sanitarium at the time the fire broke out and 130 other pa tients sent there independently. It is said the fire originated in a room that had just been left by a patient who had gone out to tin ner.
