' * MAiDEN' NEWS. * * Madden, Dec. 2.-The date reminds me that before we all know it Santa Claus will be here and the year 1919 will be among the years that have been. Thanksgiving passed quietly In our midst. At the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Martin was held a family re-union when her parents, .Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Finley, the ten children, grand-children and great grand-chil dren, together 'with ,the in-laws sat down to a good Thanksgiving dinner. May they all be spared to see another such good day. 'Messrs. Chester Pinson, Walter Moore, Wade Williams and Idd 'Moore from across the hills, joined Messrs. Thad Moore, Thurman Finley and MIr. McIntyre, together with the younger N imrods, Rothwell Finley, La'w rence 3ladden, Gus, Tom and 'Lynt Wofford, and had an old time rabbit hunt Thursday when 39 rabbits, 3 birds and one squirrel were the game bagged for the (ay. Friday, at the home of Mrs. '11. C. Cunningham, Dr. and .\rs. A. B. iangston and children, Ir. and Mirs. T. S. Langston and Mr. II. .1. Lang ston were the spend the (lay guests. Miss ilettie Cunningham and Mrs. Bryson were the hostesses for the oe (asioi. A most enjoyable dinner was served. The laptists of the county arose to the occasion of putting over the $75, 000,000 campaign and we are all pat thig each other and ourselves on the hack! Believing honestly that "We have the faith once delivered to the saints." we are beginning to wake up to our duty. .1Misses Estelle Martin and 'lattle Sue Wofford, who spent Thanksgiving at home returned to Winthrop college Sunday. While in Laurens for a short while Monday we had the pleasure of greet ing the following friends: Mrs. John Davenport, of Cross 11111; Mrs. Evans McDaniel of Mt. Pleasant, and Miss Nona of the Steedloy iospital, Spar tauburg; Mesdames Tom Coleman and John Benjamin ,of feaverdam; Mr. Babb, of lhuin, and Mir. Pal loper, of .leCoriick. ihe greatest test. of friendship in these later days, is to divide sugar! The writer is sire of the fact when we gratefutlly acknowledge our grati tulde to the "friend in need," .\I. 11. Pilnsoni, of Ekoi, who thus remem bered Its. We had a good(i cup of coffee, sweetened and (creamed to tle (tueei's taste on Thiianksgivlng day; thanks to his kindness. .rs. '.lay .\Madden is spenldiig the with hr daughter, '1rs. The Coming of the "Speed Wagon" It may interest you to know how REO came to build this pneumatic tired "Speed Wagon" in the first place. This REO was the pioneer of its class and type---as you already know. It looked like a darix.g innovation when first announced, but we were sure of its ultimate success despite the scepticism with which it was greeted by other makers and even REO dealers. We had been building solid tired trucks. Built as v. ell as REO knew how, still they did not live as long as we believed they should. One day Engineer Thomas decided to equip that chassis with pneumatic tires and watch results. As he had anticipated, that chassis outlived the others several times over. Repairs and replacements were reduced surpris ingly. Then we decided that pneumatic tires was the answer to trucking problems as it had long since proved to be to pas senger carrying. At first, as we have said, this new REO which we termed the "Speed Wagon" met with scepticism everywhere. But it soon proved its great superiority in every way. The greater speed of which it was capable rendered it wonderfully econ omical as well as vastly more efficient. And the air cushions on which it rides cut upkeep and operation cost away down. Now---our only problem is to make them fast enough.--never been able to catch up with the tremendous demand. Only way you can hope to obtain a Reo "Speed Wagon" for rea sonably early delivery is.--order at once. Today---won't be a minute too soon. REO "Speed Wagon" $1,455 f. o. b. Laurens, and the special Federal tax must be added.
